Tanzania will host the 11th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (EAPCE’25) from March 5 to 7, 2025, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam. The theme of the conference is "Unlocking Energy Investment Opportunities: The Role of Petroleum Resources in Achieving Energy Security for Sustainable Development in East Africa."

The President of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, will officially open the conference. Before the main event, there will be a special seminar on clean energy, including clean cooking solutions and the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in vehicles, on March 4, 2025.

The EAPCE’25 conference will bring together over 1,000 participants, including policymakers, government leaders from East African Community (EAC) member states, international and local investors. Speaking at a media briefing, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Felchesmi Mramba, said:

"The EAPCE’25 conference will provide a platform to discuss the contribution of petroleum resources to the energy mix for sustainable development in East Africa, as well as investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector."

He also mentioned that the conference will feature presentations from industry experts on various topics, including oil and gas exploration and development, investment opportunities, the transition to clean energy, environmental concerns, legal and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, there will be an exhibition showcasing products and services from various companies in the oil and gas value chain.

Strategic Timing and Energy Goals

Mr. Mramba emphasized that this conference comes at a crucial time, following Tanzania's recent hosting of the Mission 300 Summit, where African leaders agreed on a five-year National Energy Plan (2025-2030). Tanzania aims to:
  • Increase electricity access to 75%
  • Ensure 100% electricity availability

$50 MILLION PENTHOUSE IN ZANZIBAR; MANHATTAN-STYLE LUXURY IN EAST AFRICA

Work has started on a $50 million penthouse paradise in Zanzibar – bringing Manhattan-style luxury to East Africa

Richard Ashby is building Shivo Towers – the island’s first portered luxury apartments with room service from a high-end restaurant, huge communal pool, spa, gym, co-working space and vast manicured tropical gardens overlooking the ocean in Paje.

Ashby says that infrastructure improvements have transformed Zanzibar from a back-packers’ haven into a new luxury destination for well-heeled travellers.

Better roads and services have created an ‘easy paradise’ similar to the high-end Caribbean destinations and that is attracting wealthier property investors.

Ashby, founder and CEO of Shivo Tanzania, said: “Shivo Towers is a new landmark for the whole of Zanzibar – world class penthouse living coming to the island for the first time. This is Manhattan-style luxury in East Africa.

“It has been made possible by the huge structural improvements which have happened on the island in the last five years.

“Everywhere you look it is better – beautiful new tarmacked roads in place of the old potholes and huge investment in basic infrastructure.

“Older people looking for the ‘easy paradise’ they can find in winter sun destinations such as Maldives and the more exclusive parts of the Caribbean can now get the same luxury comfort in Zanzibar.

“If your image of Zanzibar is of a ‘rough-and-ready’ haven for kite surfers and backpackers, think again.

“They are still here enjoying the gorgeous white sands and the tropical paradise but there is a whole new class of traveller who is coming to the island expecting the very best luxury accommodation and Shivo Towers has been built for them.”

Land prices have shot up by 400% in Zanzibar in the past three years as other developers join Ashby in catering for this new class of tourist.

Ashby left London for the Indian Ocean holiday hotspot to escape Covid restrictions five years ago – and this is his second real estate project.

Investors can make a 66% return in the booming winter sun destination which is a third of the price of Dubai or the Caribbean and has been dubbed ‘the new Maldives’.

Shivo Towers has been designed by the renowned Italian architectural firm Much More, based in Dubai, London and Milan and led by director Christian Bonu.

Ashby, who lives on the island, said: “The development embodies Italian contemporary design while taking inspiration from the natural world and the surrounding landscape of Zanzibar.”

The two towers will have four penthouses, each with an asking price of $1.25 million, but there will also be more affordable entry-level studio suites starting at $120,000.

In total there are 162 units in the development and 30 have already sold.

WANANCHI, VIKUNDI VYA KIJAMII WETE, PEMBA VYAPIGWA MSASA NMB KIJIJI DAY

NMB KIJIJI DAY EMPOWERS RESIDENTS & COMMUNITY GROUPS IN WETE, PEMBA

North Pemba Regional Commissioner has urged the residents and community groups in the Wete district to effectively utilize the financial education and inclusive banking services, including affordable insurance and loan services provided during the NMB Village Day festival. This event was held in Gando village a few weeks after the opening of the new NMB Wete branch.

This call was made by North Pemba Regional Commissioner, Ms. Salama Mbarouk Khatib, while inaugurating the NMB Village Day a platform managed by the bank aimed at delivering financial education and inclusive services to marginalized Tanzanians, particularly those residing in underserved areas.

NMB opened a new branch in Wete last month, preceding the NMB Village Day held last weekend a forum that brought together locals and members of various community groups from Gando and Junguni villages, areas noted for a tendency to hoard cash at home.

Various topics were addressed in the seminar that involved more than 10 community groups with over 200 members from Gando and Junguni villages. The seminar was led by NMB Relationship and Deposits Manager, Ms. Monica Job, NMB Zanzibar Regional Sales Manager, Mr. Muhsin Nahoda Mohamed, and NMB Zanzibar Cluster Manager, Ms. Naima Said Shaame.

Speaking to the residents during the NMB Village Day opening, Ms. Salama emphasized that the residents and community groups in these villages and the entire North Pemba region should seize the opportunities offered by the festival and the new NMB Wete branch by opening accounts, depositing their money, and benefiting from insurance, affordable loans, and other services.

In the presence of Wete District Commissioner, Mr. Abdallah Rashid Ali, Ms. Salama noted that the residents and community groups of Gando have commendable financial income records, but their money is often kept at home, which poses a security risk. Therefore, they should use the knowledge acquired from the seminar to change this practice.

"Recently, NMB opened a branch in Wete to provide inclusive financial services. This is an opportunity for citizens to utilize and ensure they open accounts, especially for children, youth, and students for their educational development. For the citizens and community groups, money should not be kept at home, as it might be spent even on unnecessary expenses," she stated.

"Therefore, those who have habits of hiding money, those who tuck their cash in mats, and those who put it under their mattress are urged to open NMB accounts, deposit their money to not only keep it safe but also benefit from loans, insurance, and various opportunities."

On her part, NMB Zanzibar Cluster Manager, Ms. Naima Said Shaame, commended the residents of Gando and Junguni for having numerous community groups that include women, men, and youths, and noted that the NMB Village Day aimed to educate and ensure all participants benefit from their services and opportunities.
