DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA — August 31, 2026: Maendeleo Bank Plc has been named Fastest Growing SME Bank Tanzania 2026 by Global Banking & Finance Review, published by GBAF Publications Ltd, in recognition of the Bank’s rapid growth in serving small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Tanzania.

The recognition reflects Maendeleo Bank’s deliberate strategic focus on supporting SMEs through products and services designed around their business needs.

Business growth, including SME growth, is one of the three key pillars of Maendeleo Bank’s Strategy 2025–2030. Over the past year, the Bank has expanded its branch network to six locations, while continuing to strengthen its services to SME customers.

MADARASA SITA, MADAWATI 90

Kupitia mpango huo, katika awamu hii Vodacom Tanzania imekarabati na kujenga jumla ya madarasa sita na kutoa madawati 90 katika shule tatu za msingi za umma zilizopo mikoa mbalimbali.

Shule hizo ni Vikindu wilayani Mkuranga mkoani Pwani, Ihowanja wilayani Malinyi mkoani Morogoro na Mahilowilayani Songea mkoani Ruvuma.

Katika Shule ya Msingi Ihowanja, msaada huo umehusisha ukarabati wa madarasa mawili pamoja na utoaji wa madawati 30. Aidha, wanafunzi wamepatiwa mahitaji muhimu ya shule, ikiwemo madaftari, chupa za kubebea maji, kalamu na mabegi.

VODACOM YAWEKEZA KATIKA ELIMU JUMUISHI

Akizungumza wakati wa makabidhiano hayo, Mkuu wa Kanda ya Kati wa Vodacom Tanzania PLC, Chiha Nchimbi, alisema mpango huo ni sehemu ya mchango wa kampuni katika kusaidia jamii na kuboresha mazingira ambayo watoto wanapata elimu.

Alisema uwepo wa madarasa salama, madawati ya kutosha na mazingira rafiki ya kujifunzia ni muhimu katika kuwawezesha wanafunzi, hasa wenye mahitaji maalum, kushiriki kikamilifu katika masomo yao.

NMB YAHIMIZA MATUMIZI YA TEKNOLOJIA KUKUZA BIASHARA

MWANZA - Agosti 30, 2026: Benki ya NMB imewataka wafanyabiashara wa mikoa ya Mwanza, Mara na Geita kutumia kikamilifu teknolojia za kifedha na akaunti rasmi za biashara ili kuongeza ufanisi, kufikia masoko mapya na kusimamia fedha zao kwa usahihi.

Shirima pia alieleza kuwa NMB SME World Business Credit Card ni miongoni mwa suluhisho zinazolenga kurahisisha miamala ya biashara ndani na nje ya Tanzania, hivyo kuwawezesha wafanyabiashara kusimamia mahitaji mbalimbali ya kifedha kwa ufanisi zaidi.

Aidha, alisema NMB imeendelea kuboresha huduma zake za Bank Guarantee, ambapo dhamana za zabuni zisizohitaji dhamana ya mali (Unsecured Bid Bonds) zinaweza kufikia hadi Dola za Marekani milioni 10, hatua inayolenga kuwawezesha wafanyabiashara kushiriki katika fursa kubwa zaidi za zabuni na mikataba.

NMB, BUNGE WACHOCHEA HAMASA YA AFCON PAMOJA 2027

Dar es Salaam, August 29, 2026 — Tanzania U-19 Women’s cricket head coach Imran Nackerdien has challenged his players to become “thinking cricketers” capable of making the right decisions under pressure as they battle for Africa’s sole ticket to the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027.

Nackerdien said preparations for the tournament have gone beyond the technical aspects of the game, with players being encouraged to read match situations, make informed decisions and take responsibility on the field.

“This tournament is not just all about cricket; it’s about thinking cricketers. That’s what we’re trying to produce — thinking cricketers on and off the field,” Nackerdien said.

Tanzania today welcomes seven of the continent’s most promising young women’s cricket teams for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1, which gets underway at the TCA Cricket Arena at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and runs until September 5, 2026.

The qualifier features eight African teams, with the winner securing the continent’s place at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027.

Nackerdien acknowledged that playing on home soil brings additional expectations, but said Tanzania should also view hosting the tournament as a privilege and make the most of the opportunity to play international cricket in front of home supporters.

STANBIC BANK HOSTS TANZANIA-CHINA BUSINESS FORUM AS DIRECT SHILLING-YUAN PAYMENTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE

Dar es Salaam, 27 August 2026 – Tanzanian traders importing goods from China can now pay suppliers directly from their Tanzanian Shilling accounts, eliminating the need to first convert funds into US dollars before settlement in Chinese Yuan.

The new payment route was highlighted at a Tanzania-China Business Forum hosted by Stanbic Bank Tanzania at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, bringing together Tanzanian traders, Chinese business representatives, government authorities and trade institutions to explore opportunities for strengthening trade and investment between the two markets.

Dar es Salaam businesswoman Lulu Kheri, who has been importing from China for several years, welcomed the solution, saying exchange-rate movements and informal payment arrangements have long affected traders’ costs and profit margins.

“We traders look at the rate because we look at profit. Someone can quote you one rate in the morning and by midday the rate has changed. Sometimes you take a lower informal rate and then you are left worrying whether the money will reach your supplier. Many traders have lost money that way,” Kheri said.

She said the direct Shilling-to-Yuan solution gives traders a simpler and more predictable formal route for paying Chinese suppliers.

“What matters to us is the rate, the cost and knowing the supplier will be paid. If I can put my Shillings into my Stanbic account and the Chinese supplier gets paid without an additional transfer charge, that speaks directly to the needs of traders,” Kheri said.

“When money is being reduced at every stage of a transaction, eventually it affects your profit.”

The forum showcased Stanbic Bank Tanzania’s direct Tanzanian Shilling-to-Chinese Yuan payment solution, which was launched on 12 August 2026.

The service makes Stanbic the first bank in Tanzania to enable customers to pay Chinese suppliers directly from a Shilling account and receive payments from China through the same route.

BOLT PUSHES FOR GREATER INDUSTRY COMPLIANCE, FUNDS LATRA LICENCES FOR 5,000 DRIVERS

Dar es Salaam, 27 August 2026 — Leading digital mobility platform Bolt Tanzania has launched a new initiative aimed at promoting greater regulatory compliance among ride-hailing drivers, funding more than 600 LATRA licences so far in August and targeting more than 5,000 drivers by the end of 2026.

According to Bolt, the initiative is designed to accelerate safety, professionalism and compliance across Tanzania’s growing ride-hailing industry while helping drivers overcome financial barriers associated with obtaining the required licences.

The cost of a LATRA licence ranges between TSh30,000 and TSh60,000, excluding training fees, depending on the vehicle category. The licence enables drivers to lawfully provide passenger transport services and access designated public areas for passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.

With a target of more than 5,000 drivers, Bolt’s investment could exceed TSh300 million, highlighting the potential of public-private collaboration in promoting regulatory compliance, road safety and consumer confidence in Tanzania’s mobility sector.

SUPPORTING A SAFER AND MORE PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRY

The initiative comes at a time when regulatory compliance remains an important component of efforts to strengthen road safety and build consumer confidence in Tanzania’s transport sector.

According to the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), a total of 91,178 licences for private hire vehicles were issued during the 2024/25 financial year, reflecting continued efforts to formalise and regulate the sector.

Speaking about the initiative, Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Bolt East Africa, said compliance should be viewed as a shared investment in safer mobility rather than simply a regulatory obligation.

“A licensed driver represents more than regulatory compliance—it demonstrates that the individual has met the standards required to provide safe and professional transport services. And we need more of these to meet growing demand for movement, a primary driver of Tanzania’s economy.”

Dar es Salaam: August 26, 2026 - Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and development cooperation with the Government of the Union of the Comoros to promote shared prosperity and improve the welfare of citizens in both countries.

The National Bank of Commerce (NBC), in partnership with the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), has launched a digital share trading service that enables Tanzanians to buy and sell shares of companies listed on the DSE through NBC’s mobile banking platform, NBC Kiganjani.

The partnership integrates the DSE Hisa Kiganjani platform with NBC Kiganjani, making capital market investment more accessible by allowing members of the public to invest directly in listed companies using their mobile phones, without the need to visit bank branches or capital market institutions.

A brief ceremony to introduce the partnership was held in Dar es Salaam and brought together senior officials from the two institutions, including DSE Chief Executive Officer Peter Nalitolela, NBC Managing Director Theobald Sabi, and Alfred Mkombo, Director of Research, Policy and Planning at the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA), who represented CMSA Chief Executive Officer and Director General CPA Nicodemus Mkama.

NBC KIGANJANI OPENS ACCESS TO SHARE INVESTMENT

Speaking at the event, NBC Managing Director Theobald Sabi said the new service will enable customers to buy and sell shares, access important market information and monitor the value of their investments conveniently and securely at any time.

“We are delighted to announce the partnership between DSE Hisa Kiganjani and NBC Kiganjani. This collaboration gives our customers the opportunity to buy shares directly through their NBC accounts using NBC Kiganjani,” said Sabi.

He said the initiative is designed to remove some of the barriers that have traditionally limited access to capital market services and encourage more Tanzanians to participate in the investment economy.

SERVICE ALSO AVAILABLE TO NON-NBC CUSTOMERS

DSE Chief Executive Officer Peter Nalitolela said the service is not restricted to existing NBC customers.

He explained that people who do not already have an NBC account can download NBC Kiganjani, open an account using their National Identification Number (NIDA) and access the digital share trading service.

“We have enabled our DSE Hisa Kiganjani platform to be integrated with NBC Kiganjani. Once a customer logs into NBC Kiganjani, they can access DSE Hisa Kiganjani and buy shares directly,” said Nalitolela.

30 YOUTH-LED & WOMEN-LED CSOs COMPLETE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME, 15 SELECTED FOR TZS 375M IN SEED GRANTS

Dar es Salaam, 24 August 2026: Thirty youth-led and girl/women-led Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Songwe have completed a three-month capacity-building programme implemented by the Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) in partnership with UNICEF Tanzania.

Following a competitive selection process, 15 of the participating organisations have been recommended to receive seed grants of TZS 25 million each, representing a total investment of TZS 375 million to support community-level initiatives.

The programme, introduced in April 2026, was designed to strengthen the organisational and technical capacity of CSOs working closely with communities on issues affecting children, adolescents, young people and women.

Between May and August 2026, approximately 90 representatives from the 30 CSOs participated in online training, mentorship and in-person sessions covering project cycle management, strategic communications and advocacy, institutional administration, financial and grant management, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), resource mobilisation and partnership development, as well as strategic leadership and governance.

Speaking at the seed grants awarding ceremony, Foundation for Civil Society Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes Quality and Learning, Cynthia Bavo, said the participating organisations already possess strong community connections and an understanding of the challenges facing children and adolescents.

“These organisations already have what matters most: they are trusted in their communities and they understand the problems children and adolescents face. What this programme has added is the institutional strength to act on that knowledge and to account for it. We are now moving from strengthening institutions to investing in the solutions they are positioned to deliver.”

The announcement follows a remarkable milestone in 2025, when Tanzania’s team won the Pan-African Grand Prize valued at US$5,000, highlighting the growing potential of young Tanzanian women in technology and innovation.

The GirlCode Hackathon forms part of GirlCode’s wider Pan-African initiative aimed at empowering young women with practical technology skills, mentorship and opportunities to develop solutions addressing real challenges in their communities.

The return of the Tanzania edition marks an important step in strengthening the country’s pipeline of female technology talent while building on the success achieved by participants in last year’s competition.

Tanzania’s 2025 victory demonstrated the impact of investing in young women as innovators, builders and problem-solvers. The achievement not only placed Tanzania on the Pan-African GirlCode Hackathon map but also inspired more young women across the country to see themselves as active participants in Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.

VODACOM TANZANIA REPORTS STRONG FY2026 PERFORMANCE AS DIVIDENDS RISE 18.4%

Dar es Salaam, 20 August 2026: Vodacom Tanzania Plc has reported strong financial and operational performance for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, driven by sustained investment in network infrastructure, digital services and financial inclusion.

The performance was highlighted during the Company’s 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM), where shareholders considered and approved key resolutions covering the Company’s FY2026 results, dividend, Board composition, governance and future strategic direction.

SERVICE REVENUE RISES TO TZS 1.8 TRILLION

During FY2026, Vodacom Tanzania’s service revenue increased by 21.8% to TZS 1.8 trillion, while EBITDA rose by an impressive 38.8% to TZS 684.9 billion.

Profit after tax increased by 18.4% to TZS 107.1 billion, while underlying profit after tax grew by 125.5%, reflecting stronger operational performance and improved financial efficiency.

The Company also continued to expand its customer base, which reached 27.7 million, representing a 22.3% increase year-on-year.

Growth was supported by a 22.5% increase in data customers and 22.6% growth in M-Pesa customers, highlighting the increasing adoption of digital connectivity and financial services in Tanzania.

MAJOR INVESTMENT IN NETWORK AND DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Vodacom Tanzania significantly increased its investment in infrastructure during the financial year.

Capital expenditure rose by 85.1% to TZS 323.9 billion, supporting the deployment of 444 new 4G sites and 25 new 5G sites, alongside major investments in information technology and network modernisation.

As a result, 4G population coverage reached 76.3%, an increase of 3.8 percentage points, while the number of smartphone users increased by 31.5%.

The Company has also continued to support the Government’s efforts to expand connectivity in rural areas. Since 2013, Vodacom Tanzania has constructed 466 rural sites under the Government’s rural connectivity programme.

SHAREHOLDERS TO RECEIVE HIGHER DIVIDENDS

The strong financial performance has translated into increased returns for shareholders.

The AGM approved a final gross dividend of TZS 23.91 per ordinary share for FY2026, payable on or before 15 October 2026 to shareholders recorded in the register as at the close of trading on 19 August 2026.

Total dividends proposed for FY2026 amount to TZS 53.6 billion, representing an 18.4% year-on-year increase.

The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Tanzania in advancing strategic development projects aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the Central Corridor, creating jobs, stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods in Tanzania and neighbouring countries.

The commitment was made by World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Dr. Ndiame Diop, during a meeting with Minister for Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP) at the Ministry of Finance’s offices in Dar es Salaam. The meeting took place on the second day of Dr. Diop’s visit to Tanzania.

Dr. Diop said the World Bank sees significant potential in strengthening its cooperation with Tanzania to develop the Central Corridor and transform it from a transportation route into a fully-fledged economic corridor capable of generating employment, expanding production and supporting the implementation of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.

He said the partnership will focus on supporting critical infrastructure development, including ports and railways, as well as expanding the railway network to neighbouring Burundi.

“One of the major areas of our future cooperation is strengthening projects along the Central Corridor. We have had productive discussions with the Minister for Finance on what we can do together to support this corridor and transform it into an economic corridor capable of creating many jobs,” Dr. Diop said.

CENTRAL CORRIDOR TO DRIVE VALUE ADDITION

Beyond transport infrastructure, Dr. Diop said the World Bank sees the need for integrated investments across areas served by the Central Corridor to increase the value of resources produced in Tanzania.

These areas include agriculture and agro-processing, mining and mineral processing, logistics hubs and other transport-related services, with the aim of ensuring that Tanzanians benefit more from investments along the corridor.

Malipo hayo yamekuja baada ya tathmini ya kina ya hasara iliyofanywa na wataalamu wa bima kufuatia tukio hilo, ambapo wafanyabiashara hao walikuwa miongoni mwa waliokuwa wamechukua bima ya biashara na mali zao.

Meneja wa Madai ya Bima wa NMB Bank, Madoro Max, alisema wataalamu walitumwa mara moja kufanya tathmini ya uharibifu baada ya taarifa za moto kupokelewa.

Alisema tathmini hiyo ilithibitisha madai yenye thamani ya Sh1,072,554,090 kwa wafanyabiashara hao tisa waliokuwa na bima.

“Baada ya kupokea taarifa ya tukio, tulichukua hatua za haraka kwa kuwatuma wataalamu kufanya tathmini ya uharibifu na kushughulikia madai yaliyowasilishwa,” alisema Max.

Akizungumzia tukio hilo, Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Mwanza, Said Mtanda, aliwataka wafanyabiashara kuhakikisha biashara na mali zao zinawekewa bima ili kupunguza madhara ya kifedha yanayoweza kujitokeza kutokana na majanga kama moto.

Mtanda alisema bima ni nyenzo muhimu ya kulinda mitaji na kuimarisha ustahimilivu wa wafanyabiashara pale wanapokumbwa na majanga yasiyotarajiwa.

Kwa upande wake, Meneja wa NMB Kanda ya Ziwa, Faraja Ng’ingo, alisema fidia hiyo itawasaidia wafanyabiashara walioathirika kurejesha shughuli zao na kuendelea kupata kipato.

“Malipo haya ni muhimu kwa sababu yatawapa wafanyabiashara hawa uwezo wa kurejesha biashara zao na vyanzo vyao vya mapato baada ya kupata hasara kubwa,” alisema Ng’ingo.

Reliance Insurance ilieleza kuwa wafanyabiashara tisa pekee kati ya zaidi ya 60 walioathiriwa na moto huo walikuwa na bima.

Hali hiyo inaonesha umuhimu wa wafanyabiashara kuwa na uelewa kuhusu bima na kuhakikisha biashara, mali na mitaji yao inalindwa dhidi ya majanga mbalimbali.

Wakati huo huo, idadi ya wateja iliongezeka kwa 22.3% hadi kufikia milioni 27.7, ikichangiwa na ongezeko la 22.5% la wateja wa intaneti na 22.6% la wateja wa M-Pesa.
