22nd March, Lindi, Tanzania — Cassava Starch of Tanzania Corporation (CSTC), a Tanzanian company specialized in growing and processing cassava in the Lindi Region, officially launched its first High Quality Cassava flour Factory that will produce more than 6,000 metric Tons of High Quality Cassava Flour annually. The state of the art High Quality Cassava Flour factory was officially inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (MP), together with the Managing director of CSTC, Mr. Christophe Galléan.

The factory which is the first of its kind in Tanzania, is equipped to produce over 1 Metric Ton of High Quality Cassava Flour per hour, and will employ directly up to 40 persons with plans to scale the number depending on improved capacities.

Cassava Starch of Tanzania Corporation’s with headquarters in Lindi region has been operating in Tanzania for 7 years, with an aim of selling domestically and exporting quality Tanzania-made, value added products. With the strategic proximity of the port of Mtwara, CSTC plans to reach all the South and East African Markets as well as Middle-Eastern, US and European markets.

Mkuu wa wilaya ya Iringa Mjini, Richard Kasesela ambaye alikuwa mgeni rasmi kwenye uzinduzi wa duka jipya la Tigo lililopo mtaa wa Miomboni mjini Iringa, akiwatubia wananchi waliofika katika uzinduzi wa tawi hilo linaloweza kuwahudumia wateja wengi zaidi kwa wakati mmoja. 

Mkuu wa wilaya ya Iringa Mjini, Richard Kasesela ambaye alikuwa mgeni rasmi kwenye uzinduziwa duka jipya la Tigo lililopo mtaa wa Miomboni mjini Iringa, akikata utepe kuashiri uzinduzi rasmi wa duka hilo litakalokuwa na uweza wa kuwahudumia wateja wengi zaidi.

Mgeni rasmi kwenye tukio la uzinduzi wa duka jipya la Tigo lililipo mtaa wa Miomboni mjini Iringa ambaye ni Mkuu wa Wilaya ya Iringa Mjini, Richard Kasesela (wa kwanza kulia) akipata maelekezo kutoka kwa wafanyakazi wa Tigo namna wanavyohudumia wateja.

Kampuni ya Tigo hivi karibuni imezindua duka jipya la huduma kwa wateja lililopo Iringa mjini ambalo litarahisisha upatikanaji wa huduma kwa wateja wake wa eneo la Iringa mjini na maeneo ya jirani.

Akizungumza wakati wa uzinduzi wa tawi hilo Mkurungezi wa kanda ya Kusini wa Tigo, Henry Kinabo, amesema tawi hilo jipya lililopo mtaa wa Miyomboni, ni sehemu ya mkakati wa kampuni hiyo kuwafikishia wateja wake huduma zake karibu zaidi.

Kinabo alisema duka hilo litahudumia wateja zaidi ya 100 kwa siku kwa kuwapa huduma mbalimbali za Tigo ikiwemo huduma ya kuunganishwa na intaneti, usajili wa laini za simu, Tigo Pesa na huduma za simu janja.

Mobile Adding $2.5 Billion in Economic Value to Tanzania Economy

19 March 2019, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - Tanzania’s mobile industry is contributing significantly to the realisation of the country’s economic and development goals, according to a new GSMA report. The new report - Digital Transformation in Tanzania – is launched today at a meeting organised by the GSMA that brings together representatives from Tanzania’s three main mobile operators, Airtel, Tigo and Vodacom.

“Mobile technology is at the centre of Tanzania’s digital transformation, providing access to essential services, increasing productivity, and driving economic growth,” said Akinwale Goodluck Head of Sub-Saharan Africa, GSMA. “Leveraging mobile technology to further advance economic and development goals in Tanzania requires collaboration by all stakeholders, including operators, government and development organisations. We also require a supportive regulatory environment that encourages investment and innovation, and ensures operators have access to sufficient spectrum in a timely and affordable manner.”

The report highlights four key areas where Tanzania’s mobile industry is making a significant contribution to the country’s transformation into a digital economy and realisation of its development goals:

• Access to key services – Mobile operators provide affordable access to life -enhancing services for people in underserved communities. Inclusive and innovative business models have emerged from the convergence of various mobile services, particularly connectivity, mobile financial services, digital identity, and M2M and IoT;

• Driving productivity and efficiency – Mobile is driving productivity and efficiency gains in Tanzania’s businesses and public institutions, especially in the agricultural sector;

March 19, 2019 - Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania Limited (DTB-Tanzania), has commercially launched Pre-Paid Cards, Agent Banking and Merchant Point of Sales Machines. These 3 products have the potential to enhance financial inclusion, improve customer experience and reduce the cost of banking to DTB-Tanzania customers.

The Pre-Paid Cards under MasterCard, comes with multiple currency options of 10 Globally recognized currencies besides Tanzanian Shillings. This will enable Traders, Business Travelers, Medical Tourists, Students and Holiday Makers travelling abroad to avoid currency exchange commissions as they as would be able to carry currencies of 5 different countries on 1 card. These are United States Dollar, Euro, Great Britain Pound, Arab Emirates Dirham, Indian Rupees, South African Rand, Chinese Yuan, Canadian Dollars, Kenya and Uganda Shillings.

The DTB-Tanzania Pre-Paid Card is equipped with Chip and Pin technology for enhanced security for customers. This ensures that encrypted data on the card can not be tampered with. These cards gives the convenience of a cashless world, with total control to the owner and restricts spending to the loaded amount level only.

SOUTH AFRICA'S STANDARD BANK TO CUT AROUND 1,200 JOBS, CLOSE 91 BRANCHES

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South African lender Standard Bank will cut around 1,200 jobs and close 91 branches as part of efforts to digitise its retail and business bank, it said on Thursday.

South Africa’s lenders, like others around the world, have been shuttering branches and trimming their headcount in an attempt to cut costs and adapt to customers’ growing preference to bank online or on their mobile phones.

“This has not been an easy decision to make,” the bank, South Africa’s largest by assets, said in a statement, adding it would implement a “comprehensive exit package” that goes beyond the legal requirements.


Job cuts are sensitive in South Africa, where unemployment stands at 27 percent, and Standard Bank’s announcement comes on the back of plans to cut 526 jobs announced in November.

South African finance trade union, SASBO, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

TAXIFY HAS CHANGED ITS NAME TO BOLT AS IT EYES THE ELECTRIC SCOOTER MARKET

• Uber challenger Taxify has changed its name to Bolt, and the change is rolling out across its apps and website.
• To avoid some of the inevitable confusion, it is describing itself as "Bolt (Taxify)" for the time being.
• The company says it wants to be known for more than just cars, and believes the future is electric, as it rolls out scooter rental services around the world.

Challenger e-hailing company Taxify – the cheaper Uber rival that has aggressively rolled out service to South Africa's second-tier cities – is now called Bolt.

The Estonian company announced the change on Thursday, and quickly updated its apps and their various listings in app stores to, for the time being "Bolt (Taxify)".

Bolt/Taxify is reportedly looking for more funding, after it raised the equivalent of R2.2 billion (and hit a $1 billion valuation) in May 2018 from an investor group led by Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz.

EX-BANK M BOSS CHARGED, REMANDED

Former Bank M (Tanzania) executive Sanjeev Kumar Purushothaman is ascorted by security officers at Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in the city recently.

Mr. Purushothaman faces 29 counts of money laundering, forgery and obtaining cash through false pretences amounting to Sh6 billion. He has been remanded in custody until March 21.

Akizungumza jijini Dar es Salaam sambamba na uzinduzi wa Kampeni ya Shika Ndinga, Mkuu wa Kitengo cha Bima cha Benki ya NBC, Benjamin Nkaka alisema lengo la NBC ni kutaka kila mwananchi afikiwe na huduma za kibenki kwa urahisi na ukaribu.

Alisema moja ya huduma inayopatikana katika kampeni hiyo ni ufunguaji wa akaunti yao mpya ya Fasta inayomwezesha mteja kupata kadi ya ATM aina ya Visa muda huo huo naofungua akaunti.

“Akaunti ya Fasta inafunguliwa na kiwango cha chini cha shs 5,000/- na hata kama mtu hana kiasi hicho anaweza kufungua bila pesa yoyote na kasha akaweka pesa siku inayofuata hata kwa kutumia simu yake ya mkononi.
