Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 21 July 2025 – The Group Chief Executive Officer of Absa, Kenny Fihla, has concluded a significant visit to Tanzania, marking a major step in the bank’s broader East African engagement strategy. His tour reflects Absa’s commitment to regional growth, sustainable financial inclusion, and placing customers at the heart of its operations.

The visit reaffirms Tanzania’s growing importance within Absa’s regional network. With the country’s GDP projected to grow at 6.1% in 2025, and notable momentum in sectors like ICT, energy, and mining, Absa views Tanzania as a key driver of its inclusive and digital banking agenda.

During his time in Tanzania, Mr. Fihla met with an array of stakeholders – from customers and clients to regulators and staff – focusing on enhancing customer experience, strategic capital deployment, and aligning with Tanzania’s national development priorities.

“Tanzania is a market of immense potential, and our presence here must reflect more than just financial services – it must reflect partnership, purpose, and progress,” said Mr. Fihla. “We are here to build lasting relationships and grow with the communities we serve.”

This visit marks the first leg of Mr. Fihla’s regional roadshow since assuming the role of Group CEO on 17 June 2025. It also supports Absa’s Pan-African growth strategy, focusing on digital innovation, small business support, and sustainability.

Stakeholder Confidence and Strategic Alignment

Absa’s leadership team used the visit to deepen conversations around financial innovation, trade finance, youth empowerment, and the role of fintech in Tanzania’s economic transformation. Internal engagements also emphasized the Group’s values and long-term priorities.

Mr. Obedi Laiser, Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania, noted:
“His visit reaffirms the strategic importance of the Tanzanian market within Absa Group’s pan-African footprint. At Absa Bank Tanzania, we are deeply committed to making a real impact through innovation, inclusion, and stakeholder partnerships.”

Mr. Theobald Sabi, Managing Director of NBC Bank Tanzania (majority-owned by Absa), added:
“Absa remains a strategic anchor in our growth journey. Together, we are empowering communities and creating lasting impact.”
