CLYDE & CO UPDATER - THE TANZANIA INVESTMENT ACT OF 2022


In this article, we review the newly enacted Tanzania Investment Act No. 10 of 2022 (the New Act). The New Act was passed by Parliament on 2 December 2022 after being published in the Government Gazette. The New Act repeals the Tanzania Investment Act No. 26 of 1997 (the Old Act). We highlight the key changes made by the New Act and how these changes may affect doing business in Tanzania. The changes brought in by the New Act are less consequential than initially anticipated, however they do provide clarity on several key issues, including on procedure.

Main highlights of the new act: 
  1. investment capital for a Tanzanian investor reduced;
  2. added functions for the National Investment Steering Committee (NISC) and the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC);
  3. establishment of an integrated electronic system;
  4. removal of the automatic immigration quota incentive;
  5. removal of time to appeal to the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade (the Minister);
  6. clear timeframe for an issued certificate of incentive;
  7. added requirements for investors under strategic investment or special strategic investments;
  8. higher fines for non-compliance;
  9. access to international arbitration; and
  10. protection of existing certificates of incentives.

Location: Selected candidates will be deployed in various Departments at Headquarters (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire), Bank’s Regional and Country Offices. However, selected interns will perform their internship remotely while waiting for the Bank to gradually return to office.

The broad objectives of the program are to:
  • Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.

The Fields of Study Required for the Internship:

UBA BANK OPENS NEW BRANCH IN ARUSHA



UBA Bank Tanzania is pleased to launch its newest Branch in Arusha region which is part of the bank’s continuous effort to reach its customers across the country and provide tailor made products that aim to advance Tanzanian’s personal and business financial requirements to tap into the available business opportunities that are vital to the growth of the Tanzania’s economy.

MSHINDI WA NMB MASTABATA KOTEKOTE AKABIDHIWA ZAWADI YA PIKIPIKI MKOANI TABORA


Mshindi wa shindano la NMB MastaBata KoteKote linaloendeshwa na Benki ya NMB, Emmanuel Marumbo kutoka Mkoani Tabora amekabidhiwa rasmi Pikipiki yake leo aina ya Boxer.

Mshindi huyo wa jumla aliyepatikana katika droo ya nane ya shindano hilo iliyofanyika wiki iliyopita Mkoani Tanga, amekabidhiwa zawadi yake na Meneja Masoko NMB Kanda ya Magharibi Trifon Malkiory.


Hafla ya kumkabidhi zawadi hiyo imefanyika kwenye Tawi la NMB Mihayo mjini Tabora, ambapo kabla ya kumkabidhi zawadi mshindi Meneja huyo aliendesha droo ya tisa ya shindano hilo kwa wiki hii.

Meneja Masoko Trifon amesema kuwa NMB imekuwa ikiendesha shindano hilo ukiwa ni mwaka wa nne tangu limeanza, ambapo linalenga kuhamasisha wateja wake kutumia kadi na Lipa Mkononi (QR).

Angeline Mabula ameiagiza Bodi mpya ya Wakurugenzi wa Shirika la Nyumba la Taifa ihakikishe inachochea ujenzi wa kisasa unaotumia teknolojia zinazowezesha ujenzi wa kasi, wenye gharama nafuu na unaowawezesha walaji kupata thamani ya fedha zao (value for money) ili kuweza kumudu ushindani katika soko.

Ameyasema hayo wakati akizindua Bodi Mpya ya Wakurugenzi ya Shirika la Nyumba la Taifa uliofanyika kwenye hoteli ya Gran Melia Jijini Arusha jana.

“Niwaombe mhakikishe mnasimamia ipasavyo suala la ubunifu hususan katika matumizi ya teknolojia zinazowezesha ujenzi wa kasi, wenye gharama nafuu na unaowawezesha walaji kupata thamani ya fedha zao (value for money) ili kuweza kumudu ushindani katika soko,”amesema.

Amesisitiza Shirika liwekeze kwenye miradi yenye tija ambayo imefanyiwa upembuzi yakinifu (feasibility study) kitaalamu ili kuepusha kuwekeza fedha za umma kwenye miradi isiyo na tija na yenye kuliletea Taifa hasara.

Ameielekeza bodi hiyo ihakikishe Shirika linaongeza uwezo na idadi ya miradi ya kandarasi za ujenzi ili kuliwezesha kuongeza mapato kwa ajili ya kujiendesha na utekelezaji wa miradi ya uendelezaji milki.

UBER RESUMES OPERATIONS IN TANZANIA


Wednesday, 18 January 2023, Dar es Salaam - Uber has announced the resumption of its services in Tanzania following a pause that was instituted in April 2022.

Uber’s Head of East Africa, Imran Manji says, “We are excited to kick off the year on such a positive note by re-entering the Tanzanian market. We commend the government for their show of support for the growth and development of the ride-hailing industry. It is our priority to provide a platform where drivers can make substantial earnings while providing convenient and reliable options for riders In Tanzania.”

Uber is re-entering the market with UberX and Uber XL which will be available for riders to use across Dar es Salaam. UberX is affordably priced and allows more people to enjoy the convenience of trips on Uber. UberXL allows up to six riders to ride comfortably and is perfect for a trip with family and friends or for those times when you have luggage to move from one place to another. Riders will know how much their ride will cost before they hit the road with Uber’s upfront fares.

Ride-hailing as an industry has transformed how we explore and discover our cities, and since its launch in Dar es Salaam in 2016, Uber has been a partner to the city by providing improved mobility options, economic contribution through flexible earnings for drivers and contribution to government revenues.

Isaka town residents joyously celebrate the Tabora-Isaka SGR line construction launch, which stands to revitalize the transportation system, cut down transportation costs and enhance the economy.

The Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) is breathing life into the train transport system to transform the economy. The newly constructed Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is now in the fourth phase and has been constructed by the Turkish company Yapi Merkezi.

Isaka, January 17, 2023: Yapi Merkezi, a Turkish company contracted by Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), has started the construction of the 4th phase of Tanzania’s TABORA-ISAKA SGR line with a groundbreaking ceremony whose guest of honor was Tanzania’s Vice President Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango.

The foundation laid is the 4th phase from Tabora to Isaka coming after the first, second and third phases of the Dar Salaam-Mwanza Railway in Tanzania. This will be the longest railway line constructed by a Turkish contractor and the fastest in East Africa.

The Tanzania Railway Corporation has mandated Yapi Merkezi to plan and complete this project in 42 months from January 2023.

GEITA GOLD MINING LTD EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT TO SUPPORT GEITA GOLD FC FOR 2022/2023 SEASON

Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) extended its sponsorship agreement for Geita Gold Football Club at a value of TZS 800million on 16 December 2022. GGML gained exclusive rights as the Club's major sponsor for all matches and events related to the TFF's 2022-2023 NBC Premier League Season pursuant towards this agreement.

During the 2020/21 season, Geita Gold Football Club accomplished a number of objectives including participation in international matches. Geita Gold, who were competing in the African Confederation Cup for the first time in the club's existence, after placing fourth in the NBC Premier League the previous season.

During the signing ceremony at the Magogo headquarters of the Geita Town Council, GGML Managing Director Terry Strong stated that the signed deal made GGML the primary sponsor of the Geita Gold Football Club.
