STANDARD CHARTERED FOUNDATION DONATES 21.4M/- TO EMPOWER TANZANIAN WOMEN THROUGH CCBRT PROGRAMME

Dar es Salaam: July 31, 2026 - Standard Chartered Foundation, through Standard Chartered Tanzania, has donated TZS 21.4 million to support CCBRT's Mabinti Programme, reinforcing its commitment to advancing women's economic empowerment and financial inclusion in Tanzania. The funding will provide vocational and financial skills training to 40 women, while also supporting the purchase of sewing machines to help beneficiaries establish sustainable income-generating businesses.

The six-week programme will equip participants with practical skills in crocheting, embroidery, business management and financial literacy, enabling them to build viable livelihoods and improve their long-term economic prospects. The sewing machines purchased through the donation will further enhance their productivity and ability to generate income after completing the training.

CCBRT's Mabinti Programme focuses on empowering vulnerable and underprivileged women, including women with disabilities, survivors of obstetric fistula, young women who have left school, and others facing economic and social exclusion. Through entrepreneurship support and skills development, the programme aims to foster financial independence and improve quality of life.

The latest contribution builds on an existing partnership between Standard Chartered Tanzania and CCBRT. Earlier this year, during International Women's Day celebrations, the Bank donated 12 sewing machines to the Mabinti Centre and conducted financial literacy training for programme participants, underscoring its ongoing commitment to women's empowerment through practical support and knowledge sharing.

Speaking on the donation, Geofrey Mchangila, Chief Executive Officer and Head of Coverage at Standard Chartered Tanzania, said the initiative reflects the Bank's continued commitment to creating opportunities for women to achieve financial independence.

"We are proud to continue our partnership with CCBRT in supporting the impactful work of the Mabinti Programme. Today, we are further strengthening our commitment by donating TZS 21.4 million to support vocational skills development, business and financial management training for 40 women, as well as the procurement of additional sewing machines. We believe initiatives like these play a vital role in empowering women with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures."

The donation also coincides with 20 years of Employee Volunteering by Standard Chartered globally, marking two decades of employees contributing their time, expertise and resources to deliver lasting social impact in communities around the world.
