Dar es Salaam; July 31, 2026 – NMB Foundation and Mercy Corps Tanzania have signed a TZS 2.6 billion implementation agreement aimed at accelerating the growth of Tanzania's emerging electric mobility (E-Mobility) industry by expanding access to finance, entrepreneurship support, and business development services for women, youth, and small enterprises.
The two-year partnership, signed on July 31, 2026, will be implemented under the Evolve Project, which is funded by the European Union through the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel). The initiative is designed to strengthen Tanzania's green transport ecosystem while promoting inclusive economic growth and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The agreement was signed by NMB Foundation General Manager, Nelson Karumuna, and Mercy Corps Tanzania Coordinator, Anthony Salota, in the presence of Enabel Tanzania Country Director, Virginie Hallet, and Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Tanzania, Marc Stalmans.
Empowering Tanzania's Green Entrepreneurs
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr. Karumuna said the partnership reflects NMB Foundation's commitment to supporting innovative businesses that contribute to sustainable development and economic transformation.
He noted that the project will strengthen enterprises operating across the E-Mobility value chain by providing entrepreneurship training, business advisory services, and improved access to financing.
According to him, the first phase of implementation will support more than 25 businesses in Dar es Salaam, creating a strong foundation for future expansion into other regions of Tanzania.
"Our goal is to empower entrepreneurs with the financial resources, technical knowledge and business support they need to build sustainable businesses while contributing to the country's clean energy transition," he said.
Supporting Innovation and Business Growth
Mercy Corps Tanzania Coordinator Anthony Salota said his organization will spearhead project implementation by identifying innovative entrepreneurs and existing businesses that require financial and technical support to expand their operations.
He explained that the initiative is expected to stimulate innovation, create employment opportunities, and encourage wider adoption of environmentally friendly transport solutions across Tanzania.
The partnership seeks to unlock new opportunities for startups and small businesses involved in electric motorcycles, charging infrastructure, battery technologies, maintenance services, and other supporting businesses within the E-Mobility ecosystem.
Building Tanzania's E-Mobility Ecosystem
Enabel E-Mobility Engineer Pascal Giki said the project will also invest in strengthening charging infrastructure, developing sustainable business models, and improving entrepreneurs' access to grants and financing opportunities.
During the initial implementation phase, the programme is expected to support approximately 15 entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas alongside around eight existing E-Mobility businesses seeking to scale their operations.
Advancing Tanzania's Green Economy
The partners believe the initiative will play a significant role in accelerating Tanzania's transition towards cleaner, more sustainable transport solutions while fostering innovation-led economic growth.
Beyond supporting individual businesses, the partnership is expected to contribute to job creation, environmental sustainability, and the achievement of Tanzania's Development Vision 2050, which prioritizes industrial transformation, green growth, and inclusive economic development.
As electric mobility continues to gain momentum globally, the collaboration between NMB Foundation, Mercy Corps Tanzania, Enabel, and the European Union positions Tanzania to build a more resilient, innovative, and environmentally sustainable transport ecosystem.
