NMB BANK INAUGURATES FOREX ATM AT KIA

Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Nurdin Hassan Babu, cuts a ribbon at the Kilimanjaro International Airport over the weekend to launch NMB Bank's foreign exchange ATM. First left is the Bank's CEO, Ruth Zaipuna. Second right is Kilimanjaro Airports Development Company (KADCO) Executive Director, Christine Mwakatobe.

Tanzanians travelling abroad, as well as tourists entering the country can now exchange their money at the NMB Bank Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), thanks to a new service that was launched at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).

“From now on, a customer can exchange up to 2,000 US Dollar at one time at the bank’s exchange rate. This means that a customer can deposit dollars, euros and pounds at the ATM – and get Tanzania shillings, back” said the NMB Bank’s chief executive officer, Ms Ruth Zaipuna. “The service will be accessed by both NMB customers and non-customers.”

Ms Zaipuna said that launch means that cash currency exchange can now be conducted more easily, and faster than before.

“To begin with, this machine will be able to convert USD, Euros and Pounds into Tanzanian shillings,” said Zaipuna.

According to Ms Zaipuna, the presence of the NMB FX ATM machines aims to improve currency exchange services at the airport where the customer will have the opportunity to self-service for 24hrs .

She said that the launch is a continuation of the services launched for the first time by the Bank in Dar es Salaam at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA); the Bank hopes to deliver the service to other places including Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA), Zanzibar Airport and Zanzibar Stone Town”.
