The showcase brought together Tanzanian public institutions and international investors to discuss strategic investment opportunities across various sectors.

Tanzania targets international investment in energy, ports, airports, telecommunications and mining to support its long-term economic ambitions under Vision 2050.

London, United Kingdom - October 15, 2026: Tanzanian public institutions have presented investment opportunities in energy, ports, airports, telecommunications, mining and other sectors to international investors in London, United Kingdom, at a showcase organised by Stanbic Bank Tanzania in collaboration with international law firm Clyde & Co.

The Tanzania Investor Project Showcase, held on October 15, 2026, brought together government leaders, public institutions and international investors to explore partnerships and financing opportunities for strategic projects across the country.

The event was convened by Stanbic Bank Tanzania, a member of Standard Bank Group, on behalf of the Government of Tanzania. It took place a day before Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba addressed the inaugural Tanzania Investment Forum in London.

The Tanzanian delegation was led by Minister for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, and included ministers responsible for Finance, Minerals, and Communication and Information Technology, Zanzibar’s Minister for Finance, senior government officials and heads of investment authorities from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Speaking at the showcase, Prof. Mkumbo said the Government was seeking private-sector participation to help achieve the country's ambitious economic development targets.

“Vision 2050 asks us to build a USD 1 trillion economy, and Government cannot and should not do that alone. We expect the private sector to provide most of the investment. We have come to London with projects that are ready for partners, and with the people who can answer investors’ questions today,” he said.

Tanzania targets USD 1 trillion economy

Tanzania's Vision 2050 aims to transform the country into an upper-middle-income economy valued at USD 1 trillion, with income per capita reaching USD 7,000.

According to the Government, the country requires approximately TZS 477 trillion in investment by 2030, with the private sector expected to contribute about 70 percent of the total.

Stanbic Bank Tanzania's Head of Client Coverage, Corporate and Investment Banking, Elias Ngunangwa, said the country's long-term development plans, economic reforms and investment opportunities were attracting growing international interest.

“Tanzania presents a compelling investment proposition, underpinned by resilient macroeconomic fundamentals, sustained economic growth and a clear long-term development agenda under Vision 2050,” Ngunangwa said.

He added that opportunities existed across infrastructure and logistics, energy, mining and critical minerals, telecommunications, digital infrastructure and other productive sectors.

According to Ngunangwa, the Government's focus on strengthening the investment climate and encouraging private-sector participation was creating opportunities for international investors to contribute capital, expertise and long-term partnerships.

Tanzania registered 915 investment projects worth USD 10.95 billion in 2025. A further 243 projects valued at USD 1.88 billion were registered between April and June 2026, according to the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority.

Transport and logistics offer investment opportunities

Transport and logistics were among the key sectors presented to investors, reflecting Tanzania's role as a regional trade gateway serving East, Central and Southern Africa.

The Tanzania Ports Authority reported that the Port of Dar es Salaam handled a record 33.71 million tonnes of cargo during the 2025/26 financial year, representing an increase of 21.5 percent.

Transit cargo destined for neighbouring countries increased by 17 percent to 14.61 million tonnes, with more than half of the cargo destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The ports and airports authorities presented projects to potential partners, highlighting opportunities to support the development of transport infrastructure and strengthen regional trade connectivity.

Energy sector seeks strategic partners

Energy was another major focus of the London showcase, with Tanzania highlighting opportunities in electricity transmission, distribution and natural gas development.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the country's installed electricity generation capacity has reached approximately 4,646 megawatts following the inauguration of the 2,115-megawatt Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project in August 2026.

Tanzania also holds more than 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, providing opportunities for investment in gas-related infrastructure and associated industries.

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation presented areas in which private-sector partners could participate in expanding electricity transmission and distribution networks and developing the country's natural gas resources.

Mining and critical minerals attract interest

Mining was the third major investment area highlighted at the showcase.

The Ministry of Minerals reported that the sector contributed 11.9 percent of national output during the first nine months of 2025, while mineral exports increased by 31.1 percent to USD 5.4 billion over the year.

Since July 2025, the Government has issued 454 licences for critical minerals, including graphite and nickel, as part of efforts to expand mining activities and encourage more mineral processing within Tanzania.

The strategy presents opportunities for investors interested in mineral exploration, processing and the development of industries that add value to locally produced resources.

Stanbic positions itself as a bridge between investors and projects

Stanbic Bank Tanzania's Head of Investment Banking, Sarah Mkiramweni, said the showcase provided an opportunity for investors to engage directly with the institutions responsible for implementing the proposed projects.

“Stanbic is well positioned to connect Tanzania’s priority projects to diverse pools of capital, spanning commercial lending, capital markets, development finance institutions, insurers and export credit agencies,” Mkiramweni said.

She noted that direct engagement between investors and project owners was important in connecting national development priorities with the financing required to implement them.

Each participating institution made a presentation, allowing investors to seek clarification from project representatives and register interest in specific opportunities.

Over the past five years, Stanbic Bank Tanzania has deployed more than USD 1 billion in development finance in the country, supporting infrastructure, energy and trade.

The bank has also been named Best Investment Bank in Tanzania by Euromoney for six consecutive years and has previously received recognition from the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange as the country's best custodian bank.

As a member of Standard Bank Group, which operates across 21 African countries, Stanbic connects Tanzanian businesses and public institutions with financing, expertise and international markets.

Concluding the showcase, Ngunangwa reaffirmed the bank's commitment to supporting Tanzania's economic development by connecting investors with viable projects.

“We serve investors who are entering Tanzania, and we work with Government and public institutions to bring the right partners to their projects. Today we did both in one room, and we will keep doing so until these projects are built. Tanzania is our home, and we drive her growth,” he said.

The showcase forms part of broader efforts to mobilise domestic and international private-sector investment to finance strategic projects, strengthen infrastructure and support Tanzania's ambition to become a globally competitive, industrialised economy.
