Dar es Salaam, December 2025 — Airtel Tanzania has officially commissioned five new communication towers in a major step toward expanding network coverage and enhancing digital connectivity across the country. The newly launched towers are located in Mkuranga (Kimanzichana), Kilimanjaro, Dodoma (Kizota), Karatu, and Simiyu, targeting both urban and underserved rural communities.
The expansion forms part of Airtel’s broader strategy to strengthen communication infrastructure and ensure more Tanzanians can access reliable voice, data, and mobile money services.
Speaking during the launch in Dodoma, Airtel Dodoma Regional Manager, Mr. Salum Ngururu, emphasized the critical role of communication in social and economic development.
“We all recognize the importance of communication in our society. Airtel has therefore decided to expand its coverage to reach our brothers and sisters living here in Kizota, Dodoma. This tower will make it easier for residents to access Airtel services such as voice calls, money transfers, and high-speed 4G and 5G internet,”said Mr. Ngururu.
In Mkuranga, Kimanzichana Regional Manager, Mr. Lusajo Mwakapeje, noted that residents had long faced challenges in communicating with relatives and business partners due to weak or nonexistent network coverage in the lowland areas. He expressed appreciation to Airtel for investing in a tower that will significantly improve connectivity and daily communication.
Similarly, Airtel Karatu Regional Manager, Mr. Kephar Kileo, highlighted the growing demand for communication services driven by digital transformation.
“As communication needs continue to rise, Airtel is expanding its network by constructing towers in areas previously without reliable infrastructure, as was the case here in Karatu,” he said.
The newly commissioned towers are expected to unlock economic opportunities for youth, women, and entrepreneurs, particularly in regions where agriculture and livestock keeping dominate local economies. Improved connectivity will help farmers and traders access markets, link producers with buyers, and support the growth of digital financial services.
