Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — Bank of Africa Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by donating Sh24 million to four centres dedicated to caring for children living in vulnerable conditions.

The initiative underscores the bank’s broader mission to improve child welfare across the country by providing essential resources such as food supplies and educational materials—key pillars in supporting long-term development and stability for disadvantaged communities.

Supporting Centres Across Tanzania

Speaking on behalf of the bank, Head of Marketing and Communications Nandi Mwiyombella highlighted the four beneficiary institutions:

  • Amani Foundation Orphanage Centre (Zanzibar)
  • UMRA Orphanage Centre
  • Kijiji cha Furaha
  • Kalamu Education Foundation

Each centre received Sh6 million, specifically allocated to support food provision and school materials—two of the most pressing needs for children in vulnerable environments.

A Commitment to Shared Growth

Mwiyombella emphasised that the donation reflects the bank’s enduring philosophy of inclusive and sustainable development.

Our commitment is built on the principle of shared growth and human dignity. By addressing essential needs, we are ensuring these centres can continue their noble work and provide a safe and stable foundation for the children,” she said.

She further noted that regardless of size, every contribution plays a critical role in empowering communities and improving lives.

Driving Collective Responsibility

Beyond the financial contribution, the bank used the initiative as a platform to call on other financial institutions in Tanzania to actively support vulnerable groups.

Eradicating poverty and empowering the youth requires collective effort. These children represent the future of our nation, and it is our shared responsibility to invest in their well-being,” Mwiyombella added.

Community-Centred Approach

A distinctive feature of Bank of Africa Tanzania’s CSR strategy is its consultative approach. Prior to offering support, the bank engages with local authorities and centre leadership to ensure interventions are aligned with real needs on the ground.

This targeted method enhances impact, ensuring that resources directly address operational challenges such as food security and access to education.

Voices from Beneficiaries

The donation has been warmly received by the beneficiary institutions:

  • Dr Saidy Ally Soudy, Project Manager at Kalamu Education Foundation, expressed gratitude, noting the support will help children pursue their educational aspirations through improved access to learning materials and nutrition.
  • Martha Massawe, Supervisor at Kijiji cha Furaha, highlighted the centre’s mission since its establishment in 2002 to expand access to primary and secondary education for vulnerable children.
  • Hamza Ahmed, Secretary of UMRA Orphanage Centre, described the donation as a meaningful step toward equipping children with the tools needed for self-reliance.
  • A student representative, Zuwena Abbas Ali from Amani Foundation Orphanage Centre, delivered a heartfelt message of appreciation on behalf of the children.

Beyond Banking: A Partner in Development

Bank of Africa Tanzania’s decision to allocate equal funding to each centre reflects its recognition of the recurring operational challenges faced by such institutions. By focusing on essential services, the bank ensures children have access to both immediate care and long-term opportunities.

This initiative reinforces the bank’s positioning not only as a financial institution but also as a committed partner in Tanzania’s socio-economic development—championing inclusive growth, community empowerment, and a brighter future for the next generation.

Held at the construction site, the handover marks a significant step in the bank’s mission to advance community infrastructure and development.
