The signing of the MoU reaffirms GGML’s commitment to the Tanzanian Government and its people through compliance with the amended section 105 of the Mining Law that includes provisions relating to a mineral right holder’s Corporate Social Responsibility Plan.
The implementation of the CSR plan will benefit Geita communities in the areas of environment, infrastructure, health, education and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking during the brief ceremony, the Regional Commissioner of Geita, Hon. Eng. Robert Gabriel expressed the Government of Tanzania’s appreciation for the strong and healthy partnership between GGML and the Geita community.
He said GGML strives to support the Government of Tanzania’s aspirations of sustainable social and economic development in host communities.
Meanwhile, The GGML's Managing Director, Richard Jordinson said the company further endeavors to cooperate with the local authorities as well as the communities in the identification and management of key projects for the sustainable future of Geita region.
“We are delighted to reaffirm our commitment to the Government of Tanzania and the Geita communities. In what is now our third CSR plan since the amended section of the Mining Law, we are optimistic we can build upon previous projects to enhance ownership by the communities but also pledge to continue collaborating on sustainable projects that can outlast the life of the mine
“Since its inception, GGML has been working closely with the local government authorities to support a number of community projects in the Geita region through Public-Private Partnerships as well as National programmers.
“Consistent with its core value of providing the Geita community with sustainable socio-economic development that outlasts mining activity, GGML has carried out various projects in the local Geita community including water supply, education and economic development activities in the agriculture, construction and service sectors,” he said
