Dar es Salaam: Barclays Bank Tanzania Limited under its education skills Citizenship pillar has donated TZS 10 million to sponsor 6 girls for vocational training at VETA.
The sponsorship will enable the girls from underprivileged background to receive vocational training at VETA Centers which will contribute towards improving their opportunities for developing Livelihoods and employment skills. The funding covers tuition fees, accommodation at VETA centers, and prescribed books and other learning materials.
Speaking during the event, the bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Relations, Mr. Aron Luhanga said, “Barclays is committed to volunteer, engage and play part in giving back to the community with aim of upskilling and empowering youth. As a pan-African bank, we manage all our Citizenship initiatives in alignment with our purpose of bringing possibilities to life.
Citizenship for us is a strategic centre of excellence that develops the business socio-economic strategy with a commitment to play a shaping role in society by becoming an “active force for good”.
Cementing more on the sponsorship, the bank’s Corporate Director, Mr. Brian Kalero said that the partnership with VETA has been generated from a business relationship the bank has with Pact Tanzania.
Commending the bank for its support, Pact’s Country Director, Ms. Mariana Balampama, said “It’s only through integrated efforts and partnerships such as these that we are going to bring sustainable impact that will benefit Tanzania for generations to come. Our work in Tanzania focuses on improving the lives of orphans and vulnerable children and this support from Barclays Bank goes a long way in helping us achieve what we have set out. We envision a Tanzania where communities are heard, capable and vibrant.”
In concluding, Mr. Luhanga gave assurance that as a bank, Barclays will continue to cement their commitment to making a positive impact in the society in which they serve by advocating change. “We’re all about bringing possibilities to life as we support initiatives that help upskill, empower people and play part to change lives, and solve communities’ challenges”, he said.
