The bank had visited the school and noticed a huge demand especially from female pupils.
The facility with 12 holes is part of the bank’s support to social development in the country.
A DTB representative who attended the handover ceremony, Mr Jonas Mbuya, said the bank was committed to creating a better learning environment.
“We understand the role of education in preparing leaders, skilled labour as well as specialized professionals like doctors who are highly needed in our societies.
Primary school is the foundation for education,” said Mr Mbuya who is the branch manager of DTB CBD branch. “Last year, we built two classrooms at Jitihada Primary School in Kitunda and we will continue supporting various schools including those with special needs,” he added.
Ukonga head teacher Violet Peter Luanda appreciated the support saying it will even help in improving the performance of the school. “DTB is a great partner in improving the learning environment and we are grateful for that. We hope that this support will also help improve the pupils’ performance,” she said.
DTB-Tanzania which has 28 branches is part of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) which an economic wing of the Aga Khan Development Network. The bank operates in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda na Burundi.
