According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in Dar es Salaam, the Premier will represent President John Magufuli at the summit to be held at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).
Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama, who is the current SADC Chairperson, will open the summit which will discuss the state of security and defence in Lesotho,” reads part of the statement.
The statement pointed out that the meeting would be preceded by a meeting of permanent secretaries from the ministries of foreign affairs, regional integration and international relations in the 15-member state regional economic grouping.
The meeting will be attended by South African President and outgoing SADC Troika Chairperson, Mr Jacob Zuma; and Mozambique President and current SADC Troika Chairperson Jacinto Felipe Nyusi.
Others are Swaziland King Mswati III, who is also the Deputy SADC Troika, Zimbabwe President and outgoing SADC Chairperson, Mr Robert Mugabe.
Mr Majaliwa left Dar es Salaam yesterday with the delegation of top government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional and International Cooperation, Dr Augustine Mahiga, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ambassador, Dr Aziz Mlima.
In January, the SADC Double Troika Summit noted with concern that the Kingdom of Lesotho has not undertaken the constitutional, public sector and security sector reforms. It received and endorsed the Report of the Commission of Inquiry, and urged Lesotho to implement its recommendations.
The Summit urged Lesotho and all political stakeholders to actively contribute to a conducive environment to allow the safe return of opposition leaders and members of the security forces who are in exile.
