VODACOM LAUNCHES FESTIVE SEASON CAMPAIGN
As the festive season approaches, Vodacom Tanzania has launched its campaign dubbed ‘Sambaza Shangwe, Gusa Maisha’ which translates to 'Share Joy, Touch Lives,' that intends to reward its loyal customers with tons of gifts and cater to healthcare assistance for children from economically challenged families in referral hospitals across Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
Speaking during the launch of the festive campaign in Dar es Salaam, Vodacom Tanzania Consumer Business Unit Director, Linda Riwa, noted that this holiday season is exceptional because, on top of the customary festive promotions that seek to reward their loyal customers, the telco will embark on charitable activities as well.
'Sambaza Shangwe, Gusa Maisha' - as the name of the campaign suggests, aims to share the joy and touch the lives of our customers and the wider community across all 31 regions countrywide. In ensuring that our customers remain jovial and in a festive mood as we wind up the year, we will be awarding them with instant rewards and weekly prizes including cash of up to ten million shillings, motorcycles, televisions, smartphones, 5G and 4G routers and so much more. I believe these gifts will not only lift our customers’ spirits but also provide them with opportunities to elevate their lives when put to good economic use," said Ms. Riwa.
The 'Sambaza Shangwe, Gusa Maisha' campaign, launched today, is expected to run for approximately 10 weeks up to mid-January 2024 whereas during the month of November, the campaign will focus on rewards and handovers to customers while December will be dedicated to community outreach for children at referral hospitals.

KLM REPLACES OLDER AIRCRAFT WITH NEW AIRBUS A350
- The airline has signed an agreement with Airbus for a total of 50 Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft to be deployed on intercontinental flights from 2026.
- The new Airbus A350 constitutes a major step in building a cleaner and quieter fleet, producing 40 per cent less noise and burning 25 per cent less fuel than similar aircraft of the older generation.
Wide-bodied in design, the new aircraft has substantial benefits in terms of reducing CO2 emissions and noise impact. Procurement is subject to the recommendations of the KLM Works Council.
Making the announcement, Air-France KLM Air France KLM General Manager for East and Southern Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana Marius van der Ham said, “Today marks a very special day for KLM. We have taken a big step towards our future with the proposed decision of purchasing a new aircraft. We can make our fleet significantly cleaner, quieter and more fuel-efficient with the A350s. This is important because we are all faced with the major task of becoming more sustainable. Furthermore, it gives us an opportunity to offer our passengers much more service and comfort on intercontinental destinations”.

KERRY OPENS MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN TANZANIA
30 October 2023: Kerry, a world leading provider of taste and nutrition solutions, has officially opened a new manufacturing facility in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to support local food and beverage manufacturers.
The facility expands Kerry’s capacity in East Africa and is its first manufacturing facility in Tanzania. Kerry’s Global CEO, Edmond Scanlon showed his commitment to Africa and customers in Tanzania by appearing as the guest of honor at the opening ceremony surrounded by key customers and senior Kerry executives.

Located at the 16-storey Lilian Towers, Nairobi Safari Club by Swiss-Belhotel owned by local hospitality investment firm Mukawa (Hotels) Holdings Ltd, is Nairobi’s only all-suite hotel and stands out as a landmark in the Central Business District (CBD) area, thanks to its award-winning architectural design.
As part of the strategic partnership, the four-star hotel established in 1984 by the late Kenyan Businessman and Member of Parliament, Honourable Stanley Munga Githunguri, will be rebranded as Nairobi Safari Club by Swiss-Belhotel.

NEXT FINANCIAL YEAR BUDGET (2024/25) HITS 47 TRILLION
Dodoma: The government plans during the next financial year (2024/25) to collect and spend 47.4tril/- in both recurrent and development expenditures, as well as financing next year’s local government polls and preparations for the 2025 General Election.
The Minister for Finance, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba said this in Parliament when tabling the guidelines proposals for the National Development Plan and Budget for 2024/25 fiscal year where he noted that internal revenue sources will account for 34.4tril/-, an equivalent of 72.6per cent of the total budget.
“Development Partners are expected to pump into the national budget a total of 4.3tril/- (equivalent to 9.0per cent), while the government is expected to borrow 6.1tri/- from the internal and 2.6tri/- from the foreign market,’’ said Dr Nchemba.
According to him, the 2024/25 budget outlook has considered the revenue collection trend, expectations on the growth of economy, state of the global economy as well as the various strategies the government is undertaking to increase internal revenue sources.
The finance minister further told the House that government spending was projected at 47.4tril/- out of which it will spend 12.1tril/- to service the government debt, salaries to public servants (11.8tri/-), as well as running government business (8.2tril/-).
Also, Dr Nchemba said 15.3tril/- would be spent in implementing development projects including free Primary and Secondary education and loans to students of higher learning institutions.
NMB BANK INKS STRATEGIC PPP MOU WITH ZANZIBAR
NMB Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Zanzibar Private Partnership under the President’s Office Labour, Economic Affairs and to accelerate public-private partnerships (PPPs) project financing in Zanzibar.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held in Zanzibar, the NMB Chief Finance Officer, Juma Kimori said the MOU aligns with the bank’s strategy of creating a shared value for all its stakeholders including the Government and will be a catalyst to sustainable economic development in Zanzibar.
“As a bank, we believe that increased private sector participation in public services sectors is a cornerstone for economic development and job creation. We are pleased to work with Zanzibar Private Partnership, to find the best PPP solutions for Zanzibar today re-affirming our unwavering commitment to support sustainable development in Zanzibar,” Kimori said.
He noted that NMB Bank will use its strong balance sheet to provide tender guarantee services to players seeking to take part in various strategic development projects in Zanzibar adding that the bank offers various tailor-made products to its customers.
“We are the biggest bank in terms of profitability and we have a strong balance sheet. Currently, we offer a single borrower limit of up to 420m/- to any potential borrower who meets our terms,” he stressed.
Kimori added that the bank has so far partnered with a number of agencies in Zanzibar including Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) and the Zanzibar eGovernment Agency (eGaz) and will continue working with various agencies to support attainment of Zanzibar’s blue economy drive.
He noted that the bank will continue to provide an intermediary role of providing financial literacy services noting that over 10,000 people in Zanzibar engaged in seaweed farming, salt and have already benefited from its financial literacy drive.

Waziri wa Fedha Mhe. Dkt. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (Mb) amesema kuwa Serikali inatarajia kukusanya na kutumia jumla ya shilingi tilioni 47.424 katika mwaka 2024/2025.
Dkt. Nchemba alisema hayo Bungeni jijini Dodoma wakati akiwasilisha Mapendekezo ya Mwongozo wa Maandalizi ya Mpango na Bajeti ya Serikali kwa mwaka 2024/25.
Alisema kuwa makusanyo hayo yatatokana na vyanzo mbalimbali yakiwemo mapato ya ndani, michango kutoka kwa Washirika wa Maendeleo na mikopo.
“Mapato ya ndani yanakadiriwa kuwa shilingi tilioni 34.436 sawa na asilimia 72.6 ya bajeti yote, Washirika wa Maendeleo wanatarajiwa kuchangia shilingi tilioni 4.291 sawa na asilimia 9.0 ya bajeti. Serikali inatarajia kukopa shilingi trilioni 6.141 kutoka soko la ndani na shilingi trilioni 2.555 kutoka soko la nje”, alieleza Dkt. Nchemba.
Dkt. Nchemba alisema kuwa Maoteo ya Bajeti ya Serikali ya mwaka 2024/25 yamezingatia mwenendo wa ukusanyaji mapato, matarajio ya ukuaji wa uchumi, hali ya uchumi wa dunia pamoja na mikakati ambayo Serikali inaendelea kuchukua katika kuongeza mapato ya ndani.
