ABSA BANK RECOGNISED WITH RISING WOMEN AWARD FOR ADVANCING WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 8 March 2026 – Absa Bank Tanzania has been recognised with the Rising Women Award in acknowledgment of its strong commitment to empowering women, promoting financial inclusion, and advancing women’s representation in leadership.

The recognition was presented by Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Planning and Investment, during a brief ceremony held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

Receiving the award on behalf of the bank, Obedi Laiser, Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania, said the recognition reflects the institution’s continued efforts to support women’s economic empowerment and create inclusive opportunities within the financial sector.

Absa Bank Tanzania has in recent years strengthened initiatives aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs, expanding access to financial services, and increasing women’s participation in leadership roles within the organisation.

During the ceremony, Prof. Mkumbo presented the Rising Women Award to Laiser, commending the bank for its role in championing gender inclusion and supporting initiatives that empower women economically and socially.

In a related moment during the event, Abigail Lukuvi, Citizenship and Events Manager at Absa Bank Tanzania, received a token of appreciation in recognition of the bank’s contribution to the Rising Women Initiative.

The award highlights Absa’s broader commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth by ensuring women have greater access to financial services, leadership opportunities, and economic participation.

Following the ceremony, Laiser, Lukuvi, and other members of the Absa team posed for a group photo while holding the Rising Women recognition awards, marking the bank’s continued role in advancing gender equality within Tanzania’s financial services sector.

Through such initiatives, Absa Bank Tanzania continues to position itself as a key partner in supporting women’s empowerment and driving inclusive economic development across the country.
