Dar es Salaam, 13 June 2025 – In a powerful show of environmental stewardship, Akiba Commercial Bank Plc (ACB) has partnered with the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) to plant 1,500 trees at TIA's Kurasini campus, marking a significant milestone in the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda. The initiative reflects ACB’s enduring commitment to environmental conservation and community resilience.
The event was led by Ms. Wezi Mwazani, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at ACB - pictured above, who took part in the tree planting exercise, symbolizing the bank’s leadership in championing sustainable development.
Strengthening Partnerships for a Greener Tomorrow
Representing the bank at the event, Mr. Emmanuel Mseti, Senior Manager – Personal Banking, extended heartfelt appreciation to the leadership, staff, and students of TIA for their warm hospitality and cooperation.
“This exercise is a practical demonstration of our belief that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Our role goes beyond tree planting,” said Mr. Mseti. “We continue to champion eco-conscious banking through our digital services—such as ACB Mobile, Internet Banking, and Akiba Wakala—which improve efficiency, broaden access, and reduce paper use.”
Beyond Trees: A Holistic Approach to Sustainability
Mr. Mseti also highlighted the bank’s broader commitment to environmental initiatives, citing ongoing support for the maintenance and beautification of Independence Square Garden in Dodoma in collaboration with the city council. This, he noted, is part of ACB’s continued dedication to civic pride and environmental beautification.
In a call to action, Mr. Mseti encouraged TIA students to take responsibility for nurturing the newly planted trees, emphasizing their role as future custodians of the environment.
“We see initiatives like these as long-term investments. They symbolize our values and offer a living legacy for future generations,” he noted.
CSR as a Core Pillar of Purpose
Akiba Commercial Bank’s CSR approach encompasses a wide range of social investments—from health and education to financial inclusion and environmental care. For ACB, giving back to the community is not merely a choice, but a responsibility embedded in its mission.
“We reaffirm our commitment to supporting similar initiatives across all TIA campuses, whenever called upon,” Mr. Mseti concluded.
With this initiative, ACB reinforces its position not only as a financial institution but also as a responsible corporate citizen driving inclusive and sustainable development across Tanzania.
