Speaking during the stakeholder engagement, Okan Kufeci, Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Plaza Premium Group, described Tanzania as one of East Africa's fastest-growing aviation and tourism markets.
"Tanzania represents one of the most promising aviation and tourism markets in East Africa. Continued investment in infrastructure, growing international connectivity, and a vibrant tourism sector are creating the right conditions for premium airport hospitality," he said.
Kufeci added that the company's investment represents the beginning of a long-term partnership with government institutions, airlines, and industry stakeholders aimed at elevating passenger experiences while contributing to Tanzania's broader economic growth.
The expansion aligns with Tanzania's strategy of positioning Julius Nyerere International Airport as a major regional gateway for international business, trade, and tourism.
With operations spanning more than 600 airports across 150 countries, Plaza Premium Group serves over 30 million passengers annually, making it the world's largest independent airport lounge operator. The company says its approach combines internationally recognised service standards with authentic local hospitality to create memorable travel experiences.
Founded in 1998, Plaza Premium Group pioneered the world's first independent airport lounge concept and has since grown into a global airport hospitality provider with a portfolio of 14 brands, including Plaza Premium Lounge, Plaza Premium First, Aerotel, ALLWAYS airport passenger services, airport dining concepts, and digital travel platforms.
The company has received more than 180 international awards, including the prestigious Skytrax World's Best Independent Airport Lounge award for nine consecutive years (2016–2025), reflecting its consistent commitment to service excellence.
