TANZANIA BREWERIES COMMITS TO WATER CONSERVATION ON WORLD WATER DAY

Arusha, March 19, 2025: Tanzania Breweries Plc (TBL), a proud member of ABInBev, joined the global community in celebrating World Water Day by reaffirming its commitment to sustainable water management within and beyond its brewing operations.

TBL recognizes the importance of natural resource conservation as a key pillar of sustainable development. As part of its ongoing efforts, TBL has strengthened its role as an advocate for the responsible use and preservation of natural resources, with a strong focus on water sustainability. The company recently hosted a special event in its Arusha brewery, highlighting the critical role of water in both industrial operations and community well-being. The event featured discussions on the role of innovation in transforming water usage in industrial operations, reinforcing TBL’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting long term resource efficiency.

Water is a crucial resource for brewing, and at TBL, sustainability remains at the core of our operations. We have reduced our water usage at our brewery operations by approximately 30% over the last 5 years. This reduction has been made possible through innovation, investment in water recycling technologies, process optimization, and not the least, the dedication of our teams. Our efforts align with the company’s global ambition to become the most sustainable brewer, with a strong focus on water stewardship.

TBL’s Water Conservation Milestones:
  • Approximately 30% reduction in Brewery operations water usage for the last five years driven by the investment in water recycling and reuse technologies to minimize waste
  • Community water access projects, including a water borehole in Minazi Mikinda to ensure clean water for local communities
  • Partnerships with global and local organizations such as World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and local government bodies to protect key water sources

Speaking during the event, the Legal & Corporate Affairs Director at TBL, Ms. Neema Temba said “Water is our most vital resource sustaining both our industry and communities. Our commitment extends beyond efficient brewing; we actively invest in water conservation projects that benefit both businesses and the people of Tanzania.”

The Arusha District Commissioner Mr. Joseph Mkude, commended TBL for its commitment to responsible water usage. He stated “Water is a fundamental resource that supports both economic growth and livelihoods. I commend Tanzania Breweries PLc. for its dedication to water conservation and its investment in sustainable solutions that benefit not only the industry but also the communities it operates in. This kind of innovation is essential in addressing water security challenges in Tanzania.”

During the panel discussion, attendees including industry experts, government representatives, and environmental organizations participated in a brewery tour to witness TBL’s innovative water-saving processes.

As a market leader, TBL remains committed to ABInBev’s 2025 Sustainability Goals (SDGs), ensuring long-term water security while continuing to deliver high-quality beverages to Tanzanians.
