Through its Society 2030: Spirit of Progress initiatives, a ten year action plan to manage their most material ESG issues which falls under their core six pillars (Positive drinking, championing inclusion and diversity, sustainability by design, low carbon world, preserving water, and doing business the right way), SBL has emerged strong and exemplary in delivering best outcomes.

On inclusion and diversity, a hotspot championed by the government and private sector, the brewer managed to offer more than 200 scholarships to under privileged students under its household agribusiness scholarship program “Kilimo Viwanda” with the inclusion of more women and People with Disabilities (PWD).

Further, Michael Salali, Chairman from Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH) an NGO closely working with SBL said that “We are proud to partner with SBL, whose commitment to inclusion has been paramount in uplifting PWDs economically through life skills training, agriculture and financial literacy.
SBL has made water its priority via its Water for Life project in Tanzania. In this sphere, has delivered more than 20 water projects, with a Water Treatment Plant to residents of Basuto village in Hanang District of Manyara region being the latest.
Talking during the launch, Colleta Kyaitela, Representative from Green Initiative Company Limited complimented SBL efforts on the latter and past engagement with the company on environmental management.
“Throughout the years, our audit showed SBL to exceed above expectations on protecting the environment, especially on recycling, reusing and fulfilling their zero to dumpsite policy in all three sites across the country” Ms Kyaitela added.
SBL has provided the capacity to serve 14,000 people, the project is set to deliver safe and clean water to four villages in Basuto Ward, but also with the ability to purify 900,000 liters of water in 12 hours, which is sufficient to meet, and exceed Basuto Ward’s current average daily water demand of 700,000 litters.
More importantly, SBL planted over 5,000 trees in Kongwa district, Dodoma region. On the same, the beer maker has maintained 0 tonnes of waste in landfill from its direct operations.
In the same spirit, NEMC representative, Hamadi Kissiwa Eastern Zonal Manager commented that “SBL is giving out a great example of how environmental and climate issues must be included and taken with seriousness for effective production that is environmentally friendly”.
Interestingly, the company is leveraging modern technology to enhance its operations, from tracking and managing its carbon-foot print, plant on-road accident and incident management.
“Nearly 100 percent of all our plastics used are widely recyclable, reusable, and compostable. This is higher than 2021, where 90 percent of our plastics were widely recyclable, and also higher than our 2022 target of 98 percent” the report stated.
The latter is not only an emerging and essential discussion in the corporate modern world but also an inspiration to other players in the private and public sector field to deliver on the same.
