Hotel Dar es salaam.
The President’s Manufacturer
of the year Awards is an annual event that is organized by the Confederation of
Tanzania Industries (CTI) in partnership with Bank M. Bank M has been the main
sponsor of this event for a second year in a row. HE Samia Suluhu Hassan, Vice
President of the United Republic of Tanzania will be the Chief Guest.
Speaking to the press
yesterday, The Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) Executive
Director Mr. Leodegar Tenga said “PMAYA aims to recognize and appreciate
the industrial sector’s important role in Tanzania’s economic development
process. For the past twelve consecutive years, CTI has been staging this most
prestigious members’ event covering all sectors of production and services”.
“This year’s competition has been improved by including
Energy Efficiency Award. The award will also act as an opportunity to publicise
the industrial energy efficiency actions across the country. CTI, DANIDA and
GIZ are actively involved in promoting energy management and efficiency in
industries e.g energy audits in industries recently done throughout Tanzania”
added Mr. Tenga.
For the first time ever, non-members have also participated
in this year’s competition. “In order to accommodate the advice given by our
Patron the President of the United Republic of Tanzania H E John Pombe
Magufuli, during the last PMAYA, we decided to widen the participation by
allowing non-members to participate in the competition to make the contest more
competitive” Tenga said.
The main objective of these awards includes recognizing the
pertinent role of the industrial sector’s contribution to the national economy,
to encourage and motivate investors in the industrial sector, to publicize the
importance of the industrial sector in the country, raising the standard of
business practices and promote sound corporate governance in the country etc.
Also Mr. Tenga thanked Bank M
for coming on board once again this year to support the awards as the main
sponsors.
Bank M’s CEO Ms. Jacqueline
Woiso said that Bank M recognises the government’s efforts to boost the
industrial sector in the country. “The Industrial sector plays a
central role in the economic growth of Tanzania so we are proud to support the local manufacturing
industry not only financially in banking services but also through this
prestigious competition.
PMAYA competition is one
avenue that challenges corporate companies to improve on quality of products
and services to the public, therefore, like we have raised the benchmark
for provision of banking services in the country, we are positive that our
involvement in this event will thereby benefit the community and the
nation at large” concluded
Ms. Woiso.
The awards introduced in 2005
with the aim of recognizing and appreciating the manufacturing sector’s
important role in Tanzania’s economic development process.
The Awards are given to
companies in small, medium and large manufacturer categories that exhibit a
high degree of economic impact. About 400 guests from the private sector and
government institutions will attend.
Ends.
