NBC BANK, VODACOM, AND SUNDERLAND LAUNCH ONLINE SALES PLATFORM FOR TAIFA STARS JERSEYS

Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Hamis Mwinjuma ‘Mwana FA’ (center), presents a Taifa Stars national team jersey to one of the media stakeholders during a brief ceremony to launch the new online sales platform for Taifa Stars jerseys. The initiative is coordinated in collaboration with the National Bank of Commerce (NBC), alongside key partners including Vodacom Tanzania and Sunderland. The event, held today in Dar es Salaam, brought together various stakeholders, including representatives from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and members of the media.

Dar es Salaam, July 23, 2025 — The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) in collaboration with Vodacom Tanzania and Sunderland has officially launched a digital platform to enable Tanzanians to purchase Taifa Stars jerseys online. The initiative comes as part of efforts to boost accessibility and sales of the national football team’s jerseys, especially in the run-up to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

The launch event took place in Dar es Salaam and was graced by the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hon. Hamis Mwinjuma (Mwana FA). The event also attracted key stakeholders including representatives from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and officials from partnering organizations. NBC was represented by its Head of Transactions, Mr. Mangire Kibanda.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Mwinjuma congratulated the partners on the initiative and expressed strong support for campaigns that promote wearing the national jersey among citizens. He further encouraged leaders of various public and private institutions to consider introducing designated days where employees can wear Taifa Stars jerseys as official office attire.

“This is a timely idea, especially as we approach the general elections. The country needs a unifying agenda, and sports offer one of the most effective ways to bring people together. I urge heads of institutions to not only allow such dress codes but also consider purchasing jerseys for their staff through this digital platform, using NBC’s seamless services,” he said.

Mr. Kibanda explained that through NBC’s e-commerce system, Tanzanians can now purchase official Taifa Stars jerseys directly without physically visiting Sunderland’s stores.

“With this arrangement, we welcome retailers and individuals to purchase the jerseys by depositing payments into Sunderland’s NBC bank account, visiting our branches and agents countrywide, or by using our digital channels such as NBC Kiganjani and NBC Connect,” he stated.

He further encouraged Tanzanians to open NBC business accounts to take advantage of the platform’s convenience, noting that all payments can be made using international cards like VISA and Mastercard.

This new system is expected to significantly streamline jersey distribution ahead of CHAN 2025, while promoting national pride and digital financial inclusion.
