Dar es Salaam, 25 July 2025 – Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania hosted a successful Employee Volunteering Session with beneficiaries of its flagship RISE/E program, reaffirming the Bank’s commitment to driving inclusive economic growth through sustainable entrepreneurship.
The session brought together employee volunteers from various departments across the Bank and young entrepreneurs participating in the RISE/E (Ready for Inclusive Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship) program. The event focused on equipping participants—particularly youth-led MSMEs—with essential knowledge to help them navigate legal, financial, and compliance challenges within the local business environment.
Speaking during the event, Herman Kasekende, CEO and Head of Banking & Coverage at Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania, emphasized the Bank’s long-term vision for the program and the communities it serves:
“This is more than a one-day event. It’s a stepping stone — and our hope is that the program, along with this session, helps you think differently, dream bigger, be bolder, and take your business further.”
Launched in 2024 with an investment of TZS 2.2 billion, the RISE/E program aims to improve employment prospects for young people with disabilities and support youth-led microbusinesses, including those run by individuals both with and without disabilities. The RISE/E initiative is part of Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the Bank’s global program focused on empowering the next generation to learn, earn, and grow.
The volunteering session reflects Standard Chartered’s strong culture of employee engagement and its belief in leveraging its people and platform to empower communities. Through hands-on mentoring and skills-sharing, employees helped demystify key aspects of running a compliant and financially sustainable business in Tanzania.
