UK UNIVERSITIES WEEK HELD BY UK ALUMNI IN TANZANIA (UKAT)

RJ Katunda (UK Alumni in Tanzania Network) with Dr Mark Brewer (Asst Dean of the Law School, University of Northumbria) at the Roundtable breakfast for UKAT advocates at Double Tree by Hilton.
Promoting professional, academic and business partnerships was the key
theme of the UK Alumni in Tanzania (UKAT) Network’s fifth UK Universities
Reception held at the British Council in Dar es Salaam. The event,
organised by the alumni organisation representing over 120 British higher
education institutions, was held to mark the launch of Tanzania’s first UK
Universities Week. The occasion brought together international officers
from 8 UK Universities: Kent, De Montfort, Glasgow, Northumbria, Dundee,
Central Lancashire, Coventry and Newcastle. During the evening members,
representatives from the diplomatic corps and business community heard
from UKAT member Steve Gannon (managing director of Serengeti Breweries),
UKAT Patron HE Dianna Melrose (British High Commissioner) and UKAT
Chairman RJ Katunda. The event was sponsored by The Citizen, Serengeti
Breweries Ltd and Mark Techno.
Various events were held to showcase UK-Tanzanian educational partnerships
and the opportunities for study in British universities. The Universities
Week ended with a Northumbria University roundtable breakfast for UKAT
advocates working at Clyde and Co, CRB Africa Legal, Forbix Attorneys and
Serengeti Breweries. Northumbria’s Law School has some 3000 students based
in a £70 million state-of-the-art location in Newcastle, northeast
England. Dr Mark Brewer, the Law School’s associate dean, held a number of
meetings with legal professionals across the city during his first visit
to Tanzania.
