Following the launch of the “Standard Chartered Trophy - Road to Anfield” football tournament late last month, the Bank held a successful National tournament on 28th February, 2015 where various teams from different companies battled it out for a chance to represent the country at the East Africa Tournament scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya on 07th March, 2015.

Mwananchi Communications Limited emerged as winners and are expected to represent Tanzania in today’s matches against the winning teams in Kenya and Uganda.

Kenya will be represented by Postal Corporation of Kenya while Uganda will be represented by Roofings Uganda Limited. The winner of today’s matches will represent East Africa at Anfield, the home ground of Liverpool FC, where a total of 10 teams from across Standard Chartered's global footprints will compete for the ultimate trophy on the 7 & 8th May 2015.

The rest of the regional teams that will play at Anfield include teams from Southern Africa, West Africa South Asia, South East Asia, North East Asia and Greater China, among others. The winners of the ‘Finals’ will be crowned Overall Champions of the ‘Standard Chartered Trophy 2015’.

Ms. Liz Lloyd, Standard Chartered Bank’s Chief Executive Officer in Tanzania reminded the MCL team of the ultimate prize for the tournament – “A ‘Money Can’t Buy’ experience of playing on the English Premier League football pitch belonging to one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football. And in addition to all expenses paid for return trips to Nairobi and the UK for the regional tournament and the ‘Finals’ respectively, the teams will be treated to a 3-day itinerary in the UK, which includes a training session at the Academy by LFC legends.”

Also present at the event was the Chairman of the National Sports Council of Tanzania, Mr. Dioniz Malinzi, and the MCL’s Executive Editor, Mr. Bakari Machumu, both of whom urged the team to play well and win the opportunity to represent Tanzania and East Africa at Anfield in May this year.

While in Nairobi, the team will stay at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel and will visit various places.
