KINONDONI RESIDENT BECOMES NEW UCHUMI SUPERMARKET SHAREHOLDER


Tanzania ‘s leading retail chain “Uchumi Supermarket” has conducted the final draw of its campaign dubbed “Mimi Mwanahisa promotion” at its new Mbezi-Kawe branch located near Rainbow social club.

The event was graced by Dar es Salaam’s regional commissioner Hon. Said Meck Sadik who was also the guest of honour, Hon. Ezekiel Wenje-MP-Nyamagana constituency and Uchumi’s group CEO Mr. Jonathan Ciano.

Ms Elizabeth Robert a Kinondoni municipal resident who shopped on 22nd Dec 2014 at Shekilango branch was announced as the overall winner of the grand prize as she acquired Uchumi supermarket shares worth Tsh 5,000,000/= following her active participation in the 3 months promotion.

Soon after welcoming various guests and invited journalists to the event which was also the official opening day of the Mbezi-Kawe branch, Uchumi supermarkets Tanzania’s Managing Diector, Mr. Chris Lenana, said…“ Through our operations in the country, the 5 branches now pay government tax to the tune of Tsh600million annually”. He also went ahead to say that Uchumi now has 430 employees and the company has been on the fore front in creating jobs for the youths in the country and also offering better payments to its employees every year. When it comes to giving back to the community, Uchumi has partnered with African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) in curbing maternal mortality where by this has been evident in AMREF’s campaign known as “'Stand Up for Tanzania Mothers”.

Uchumi’s group CEO Mr. Jonathan Ciano who was also present during the event lauded the rate at which Uchumi supermarkets Tanzania is growing and stressed that to pay government tax is to be independent economically and urged other companies to follow suit.

On the other hand Dar es Salaam’s regional commissioner Hon. Said Meck Sadik who was also the guest of honour at the event, started by congratulating Uchumi for the unmatched customer service they offer as well as quality products sold in supermarkets.

“For me I think 5 branches are still not enough and Uchumi can go beyond that”…said Hon. Sadik. He urged Uchumi officials to put into consideration and expand to other areas sighting Kigamboni, Mbagala and Kibaha as some of the populated areas while at the same time extending to other places in the country like Mwanza, Mbeya and Arusha through which they will be able to reach at least 60 percent of Tanzania’s population effectively while the government will also be able to collect more taxes.

However, Hon. Sadik commended the rate at which Uchumi has been able to create jobs in the country while also urging Tanzanians to be faithful and work hard when given posts in foreign companies that come to invest in the country.

To mark its 4th year of existence in Tanzania, Uchumi Supermarket decided to do something different in the market by awarding its customers various other prizes during the just ended festive season. Unlike other years where the giveaways included;- Full furniture set, Jiko Bab Kubwa and tour with Uchumi, this time the company introduced “Mimi Mwanahisa promotion” where the overall grand winner got a chance of owning the Uchumi Supermarket by acquiring shares worth Tsh 5,000,000/= during the grand draw.

The promotion began officially on 25th November 2014 and was set to end in 15th January 2015 whereby during all this period participants were required to buy goods worth 20,000Tsh in any of the Uchumi branches in Tanzania after which a customer fills out a form and enters into the grand draw of the promotion where apart from the grand winner of Mimi mwanahisa competition other lucky winners walked away with:-LG T.V falt screen, Water dispenser, Microwave, Techno H3 mobile phone, Dinner voucher for couples at Serena Hotel , School fees for a student worth Tsh 600,000, 1year Dry cleaning offer and Annual Shopping voucher worth 720,000Tsh/= to be used in any of Uchumi supermarkets in the country.
