AKIBA COMMERCIAL BANK AND NATIONAL BANK OF MALAWI STRENGTHEN TANZANIA–MALAWI TRADE AND INVESTMENT TIES

DAR ES SALAAM, SEPTEMBER 11, 2026 — Akiba Commercial Bank Plc (ACB), in collaboration with its strategic partner National Bank of Malawi (NBM), has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade, investment and financial cooperation between Tanzania and Malawi following its participation in the Tanzania–Malawi Investment Forum.

The three-day forum, held from September 7 to 9, 2026 at the TANTRADE grounds in Dar es Salaam, brought together Government officials, investors, business leaders, financial institutions and other stakeholders from the two countries to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.

Ms. Wezi Mwazani, Akiba Commercial Bank Acting Managing Director, addresses participants during the Tanzania–Malawi Investment Forum in Dar es Salaam.

ACB’s participation highlighted the Bank’s commitment to supporting businesses with appropriate financial solutions that facilitate trade, investment and cross-border expansion.

Speaking during the forum, ACB Acting Managing Director, Ms. Wezi Mwazani, said the Bank was pleased to participate in a platform that brings together Government, businesses and the financial sector to unlock investment opportunities and create meaningful commercial partnerships.

“At Akiba Commercial Bank, we believe that economic growth accelerates when opportunities are connected to capital, markets and the right partnerships,” Ms. Mwazani said.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH NBM

ACB’s participation in the forum was further strengthened by its strategic partnership with National Bank of Malawi, a key investor in Akiba Commercial Bank.

Akiba Commercial Bank Acting Managing Director, Ms. Wezi Mwazani, receives a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of Akiba Commercial Bank’s support as a key sponsor of the event.

The partnership demonstrates the potential of cross-border investment and financial-sector collaboration in strengthening economic ties between Tanzania and Malawi.

Through the partnership, ACB and NBM see opportunities to facilitate trade, investment and financial flows between the two markets, while connecting businesses and investors to new opportunities.

“We connect businesses to opportunities. We facilitate trade and payments, provide financing and foreign exchange solutions, and support businesses as they enter new markets and expand,” Ms. Mwazani said.

SUPPORTING BUSINESSES AND SMES

The objectives of the Tanzania–Malawi Investment Forum align closely with ACB’s strategic focus on supporting businesses, particularly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which remain important drivers of economic growth, employment and innovation.

ACB provides a range of financial solutions designed to enable businesses to trade, invest, grow and expand, including working capital facilities, trade finance, investment finance, payment solutions and foreign exchange services.

Ms. Mwazani said the success of the forum would ultimately depend on transforming discussions and connections established during the event into tangible business opportunities.

“The true value of a forum such as this is realised when a conversation becomes a partnership, when a partnership becomes an investment, and when that investment creates jobs and contributes to economic growth.”

She added that Tanzania and Malawi have significant potential to deepen their economic relationship by leveraging their respective strengths and strengthening private-sector connections.

BRIDGING MARKETS, GROWING TOGETHER

ACB’s participation in the Tanzania–Malawi Investment Forum reflects the Bank’s commitment to its “Bridging Markets, Growing Together” approach by connecting businesses and investors to financial solutions, markets and strategic partnerships.

The Bank said it looks forward to building on relationships established during the forum and continuing to work with NBM, Government institutions, businesses and other stakeholders to unlock opportunities for increased trade, investment and sustainable economic growth between Tanzania and Malawi.
