ZANZIBARI CITIZENS TO BENEFIT FROM ZANTEL'S NEW INNOVATION

Zanzibar citizens can now buy TUKUZA electricity through their mobile phone's EzyPesa service, thanks to a recently inaugurated technological innovation.
The technology is popularly known as 'Tukuza', the Kiswahili abbreviation of the words 'Tumia Umeme Kwa Uangalifu Zanzibar', which means buying electricity according to what you can afford. Zantel Chief Executive Officer, Mr Pratap Ghose, said at the launching event on Wednesday in Zanzibar that the new service is a result of partnership between Zantel and Zanzibar Electric Company Limited (ZECO).
"We are happy that this new service will give ZECO and Zantel customers' additional convenience to access electricity using their EzyPesa accounts on their mobile phones, from anywhere and anytime, thereby saving time spent in queues," he said.
He noted that Zantel and ZECO, as Zanzibar based companies are responsible to make sure that people in the Isles not only access best services, but get social and economic opportunities.
He also said that customers with Zantel line would soon get various services including paying taxes, business licences, banking services which are being connected to EzyPesa service.
Also through EzyPesa, private companies and public institutions can make different payments such as salaries with efficiency and high level of safety.
Also Zantel customers will be able to buy and get other services apart from electricity through EzyPesa. Zantel is working towards offering a bouquet of essential services to its customers at large.
"These service will easily be accessed for Zantel customers who have subscribed with EzyPesa," the Zantel boss told journalists. Mr Ghose said EzyPesa service reflects Zantel's business objective that seek to make the company a leader in offering such services in Zanzibar.
Zanzibar Minister of Lands, Settlements, Water and Energy, Mr Ramadhan Abdalla Shaaban officiated the historic event who thanked Zantel for the innovation.
"We are very grateful for your service and it is my hope that efficiency will be increased," he explained.
