Dar es Salaam - October 5, 2026; Women have been urged to strengthen their financial knowledge and investment skills as a means of turning income and savings into sustainable wealth.
The call was made during a women’s financial literacy clinic dubbed “Road to Financial Freedom,” organised by Accelerate Women and sponsored by Absa Bank Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.
The clinic brought together women to discuss financial literacy, saving, investment and the effective use of financial services as part of efforts to promote financial independence.
Speaking during the event, Absa Bank Tanzania Manager for Products and Channels, Ms. Devroda Kagusa, said access to financial services needed to be complemented by adequate financial knowledge if women were to make sound financial decisions.
“We at Absa take pride in supporting such events. Today’s event provides an opportunity for women to learn, get informed and make informed decisions on using financial services that can enhance their financial inclusion,” she said.
Ms. Devroda said the bank’s support for the initiative was part of its commitment to promoting financial inclusion, adding that the programme was also in line with Absa’s brand promise, “Your Story Matters.”
She said women could move closer to financial freedom by developing the ability to manage their money effectively and use appropriate financial services for both personal and business purposes.
“Absa is fully committed to and inspired by initiatives such as this, which give women an opportunity to learn about financial services that can enable them to take charge of their financial affairs,” she said.
Ms. Devroda highlighted Absa’s SHE Account, saying it was among the bank’s offerings designed with women’s financial needs in mind.
Accelerate Women Director, Ms. Bernice Fernandes, said a lack of investment knowledge remained one of the challenges facing women seeking to grow their financial resources.
“This is what informed our decision to hold this clinic. The training provides a platform where women can acquire knowledge that enables them to make informed decisions, save effectively and invest prudently,” she said.
Ms. Bernice said better financial decision-making could help women build stronger financial foundations while contributing to wider economic growth.
For her part, Accelerate Women Board Member, Ms. Monica Hangi, said many women had money but did not always know where to invest it to generate returns and expand their capital.
She said improving investment knowledge was therefore important in helping women make their money work for them and build sustainable financial futures.
