Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tanzanian swimmers are set to benefit from world-class coaching following the launch of the Tanzania Performance Development Series 2026, a three-week initiative aimed at nurturing young swimming talent, strengthening local coaching expertise, and equipping parents with the knowledge to better support aspiring athletes.
The programme, organised by RaceBetter in partnership with Monti AquaForce, will run from July 28 to August 14, 2026, at Monti International School's Mikocheni Campus in Dar es Salaam.
The initiative will be led by internationally renowned swimming coach and RaceBetter founder Ben Lee, who arrived in Tanzania from the United States to oversee the intensive development programme.
Building the Future of Tanzanian Swimming
Speaking during the programme's launch, Monti International School Founder and Director, Fatma Fernandes described the initiative as the beginning of a long-term partnership focused on transforming swimming development in Tanzania.
According to Fernandes, the collaboration combines international coaching expertise with local leadership to establish sustainable pathways that will help young swimmers progress from grassroots participation to elite-level competition.
She noted that beyond improving athlete performance, the programme seeks to enhance coaching standards and create a stronger swimming ecosystem across the country.
Three Training Camps for Young Swimmers
The Tanzania Performance Development Series will begin with a Coach Development Workshop from July 28 to July 30, bringing together swimming coaches, teachers and club leaders.
The workshop is designed to improve coaching standards while providing local coaches with the opportunity to work alongside Ben Lee throughout the athlete training camps.
The programme will then feature three age-specific swimming camps:
- Beginner Development Camp (Ages 6–8): July 30 – August 1
- Intermediate Development Camp (Ages 9–12): August 3 – August 7
- Advanced Performance Camp (Ages 13 and above): August 10 – August 14
Organisers say the camps have been intentionally limited in size to ensure personalised coaching and maximum athlete development through small-group instruction.
Parents Included in Athlete Development
In addition to the swimming camps, the programme will include a free Parent Education Series designed to help families better support young athletes.
The sessions will cover key topics including:
- Athlete nutrition and recovery
- Building confidence and resilience
- Developing healthy routines that support sporting excellence both in and out of the pool
Organisers believe educating parents is an essential part of creating an environment where young athletes can thrive.
World-Class Training Facilities
All sessions will be held at Monti International School's 25-metre Olympic short-course swimming pool, giving participants access to a competition-standard training environment.
The facility is expected to provide young swimmers with valuable exposure to high-performance training conditions under international coaching guidance.
Developing People Beyond Performance
RaceBetter founder Ben Lee, whose coaching experience spans developmental, collegiate and Olympic-level swimming programmes, said the initiative is about much more than producing faster swimmers.
"Our goal is not simply to produce faster swimmers. It is to help people become more capable, confident, and prepared for whatever comes next."
Lee has coached athletes who have progressed to leading NCAA programmes and international competitions, while also supporting swimming clubs, schools and national federations across the world.
A Significant Step for Tanzanian Swimming
The partnership between RaceBetter and Monti International School represents an important investment in the future of Tanzanian swimming by combining international expertise with local talent development.
By focusing on athletes, coaches and parents simultaneously, the Tanzania Performance Development Series 2026 aims to create a stronger foundation for the sport while helping young swimmers unlock their full potential.
