Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The Governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Emmanuel Tutuba, has lauded CRDB Bank for its historic core banking system transformation, describing it as a strategic milestone that reflects the maturity of the country’s financial sector.
The Governor delivered his remarks during a special meeting between CRDB Bank’s management and BoT, which was also attended by Deputy Governors and Directors of the central bank. His commendation follows recent international recognition of CRDB Bank’s reforms, praised for enhancing service quality, improving transaction security, and expanding innovative solutions for customers.
Speaking at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam, CRDB Bank’s Director of Communications and CEO of CRDB Bank Foundation, Tully Esther Mwambapa, said the recognition underscores stakeholders’ continued confidence in the bank. She highlighted the transformation as proof of CRDB’s leadership in digital innovation and bold decision-making on the continent.
“No transformation journey has ever been easy. During the transition, some customers experienced temporary challenges, which is normal with major system changes. Our team worked tirelessly to resolve them, and I’m pleased to confirm services are now fully restored. These reforms have laid a solid foundation for delivering services in Tanzania, Burundi, the DRC, Dubai, and other new markets,” Ms. Mwambapa noted.
The core banking upgrade is part of CRDB Bank’s 2023–2027 Mid-Term Strategy, which positions technological innovation as central to growth and economic impact. The reforms also reflect the bank’s resilience in executing large-scale changes across three countries while maintaining uninterrupted service—earning both local and global praise.
Internationally, CRDB Bank’s achievements have been recognized at high-level platforms, including the U.S.–Africa Business Forum held alongside the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, where CEO Abdulmajid Nsekela was invited to present. Media outlets such as Bloomberg also profiled the bank’s reforms, spotlighting its role in leveraging technology to drive financial security and economic development in Africa.
Stakeholders across government and industry have echoed similar praise. The Ministry of Finance’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Elijah Mwandumbya, described the reforms as a bold example of leadership, while the ICT Commission’s Director General, Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga, recognized them as a demonstration of Tanzania’s digital transformation capacity.
CRDB Bank has further expanded its global partnerships, signing agreements with Crop Trust to strengthen food security, DIFC to empower SMEs, and Huawei to boost digital transformation, system security, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
“These partnerships will open opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and key development sectors through innovation and digital solutions, enhancing Tanzania’s and Africa’s competitiveness globally,” Ms. Mwambapa added.
The reforms also pave the way for CRDB Bank’s continued expansion into international markets. With recent approval to establish an office in Dubai, the bank is positioning itself as a bridge connecting Africa to global capital, technology, and opportunities.
Concluding her remarks, Ms. Mwambapa reaffirmed CRDB Bank’s commitment to continuous innovation and excellence:
“Our system upgrade is not only a bold step forward but also a testament to our resilience and determination to create lasting positive impact for our customers and the economy.”
