Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — July 23, 2025: Ride-hailing company Bolt Tanzania has officially launched its new Family Profile feature, allowing one person to manage and pay for rides for up to nine others — all from a single account. The feature brings enhanced convenience, transparency, and control to families and support networks across the country.
According to Bolt data, about 2–6% of local rides are typically ordered on behalf of someone else, which previously required manual coordination and trip sharing. With Family Profile, that process is simplified. Users can now invite family members to join their profile, set monthly ride budgets, and receive real-time trip updates — all in one place.
Importantly, the feature maintains Bolt’s existing rider eligibility requirements. Each added member must have a Bolt account and be at least 18 years old, meaning it cannot be used to book rides for unaccompanied minors. This ensures compliance with legal and safety standards.
Family Profile is particularly useful for parents, caregivers, and supporters of elderly relatives who may not regularly use smartphones or ride-hailing apps. For instance, a working professional in Dar es Salaam can now seamlessly cover transport for a parent living in regions like Mwanza, Kilimanjaro, or Kahama, even if the parent doesn’t use the Bolt app.
Additionally, the account holder gains full visibility and financial control, including:
- Using a personal card to cover rides for all family members
- Monitoring individual ride activity
- Receiving real-time alerts when trips start and end
- Viewing live trip locations or contacting drivers if needed
This gives households a better grip on transportation spending and enhances peace of mind.
Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager for Bolt in Kenya and Tanzania, commented:
“At Bolt, our mission is to provide ride-hailing solutions that reflect the real needs of our users. The launch of Family Profile is a major step in helping customers offer safe, convenient, and flexible transport options for their loved ones. We're proud to add even more value to households across Tanzania.”
As Bolt continues to improve its routing, mapping, and app usability, the Family Profile feature adds to a growing list of updates designed to build trust, safety, and ease of use for all riders.
