NCBA BANK PLANTS 1,000 TREES AT JANGWANI GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dar es Salaam, November 30, 2024: NCBA Bank Tanzania, in partnership with Jangwani Girls Secondary School, has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by planting 1,000 trees on the school premises. This initiative is part of the Bank’s broader goal to plant 6,000 trees across the country by the end of 2024, contributing meaningfully to Tanzania's environmental conservation efforts.
The event brought together students, school staff, government representatives, and NCBA Bank leaders, fostering a collaborative approach to environmental stewardship. The trees planted will not only enhance biodiversity and improve air quality but also serve as a learning tool for the students on the critical importance of environmental conservation.
Representing NCBA Bank, the Head of Strategy and Sustainability, Mr. Charles Mbatia, emphasized the Bank’s dedication to creating a sustainable future. “At NCBA, sustainability is at the core of our operations. Through initiatives like today’s tree planting, we demonstrate our commitment to nurturing Tanzania’s environment while empowering communities to embrace sustainable practices. Each tree planted symbolizes hope for a greener future,” he stated.
The event was honored by the presence of Ms. Abela Mayungi, Acting Director for Environment at the National Environmental Management Council of Tanzania, who commended NCBA Bank for its leadership in environmental conservation. "This initiative by NCBA Bank showcases the power of corporate responsibility in addressing critical environmental challenges. It is inspiring to see organizations stepping forward to partner with communities in building a sustainable future,” noted Ms. Mayungi.
Earlier this year, we successfully planted trees in Zanzibar, where we supported coastal conservation efforts, and another in Arusha, partnering with the community to enhance green spaces at Arusha City Hospital. These efforts go beyond addressing environmental concerns they strengthen the social fabric of the communities we serve.
In addition to the tree planting, NCBA Bank conducted an awareness session for Jangwani Girls Secondary School students on the vital role trees play in reducing carbon footprints, preserving ecosystems, and supporting public health. The students were actively involved in the initiative, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge about environmental conservation.
NCBA Bank Tanzania remains steadfast in its mission to integrate sustainability into its corporate operations and community engagements. With each tree planted, NCBA Bank not only contributes to environmental conservation but also strengthens its role as a leader in corporate responsibility, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.
