The bank made the commitment during a brief ceremony held at Kimara Secondary School to hand over 50 desks valued at TZS 4,500,000 million, which they donated to the learning institution.
The donation is part of the bank's ongoing campaign dubbed Stanbic Madawati Initiative, which seeks to sustainably reduce the shortage of desks in schools by donating desks across the country and planting one tree for every desk donated to ensure a balance in the environmental ecosystem.
The desks were handed over by the bank’s Head of Consumer and High Net Worth Clients, Mr. Omari Mtiga to the Ubungo District Commissioner - Mr Heri James at an event held at the school at the end of the week.
Speaking during the ceremony Mtiga said, ‘’we recognise the efforts made by the government in improving the education sector, and we are committed to being at the forefront of supporting these efforts as we believe that quality education is crucial in creating a learned society and enlightened human capital, which are important for the development of the various sectors of the national economy.’’
He added that the bank's continued commitment to support the education sector stems from its brand purpose which seeks to drive the growth of the nation by supporting the dreams of communities within its areas of operations.
“Getting the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of education in Tanzania is a matter of honour for us as we empower students to fulfil their dreams and spur achievement of the nation's development vision,” said Omari Mtiga
Speaking during the event, Hon. James said that Stanbic Bank’s donation is an indication that government efforts to create a friendly environment for financial and other institutions to do business is bearing fruit, hence enabling these institutions to invest in the community.
Hon. James stated that despite all its efforts, the government cannot develop all sectors at the same time at 100 per cent because national funds are distributed to all sectors according to needs. He urged stakeholders to support the government's efforts to meet the needs of the people.
“Our government has invested in building classrooms, however, there is a scarcity of desks, so Stanbic’s donation of these desks today supports government efforts to improve the educational environment in this school, making it possible for children to achieve their dreams.” He added.
The event was also attended by local government officials, students from the school and staff from Stanbic Bank.
