GEITA GOLD MINING DONATES 4 VEHICLES TO VETA MWANZA
Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) donated four Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) Mwanza branch in Mwanza Region, yesterday.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, AngloGold Ashanti Vice President, Simon Shayo, in charge of sustainability in Tanzania and Ghana said the support comes at the right time when the world is aligning with the United Nations' sustainable goals.
“Our company has a responsibility to benefit the community through its gold mining activities. We have been cooperating with VETA for a long time to provide technical training to various young people from Geita.
“After seeing the challenge of transport to the VETA Authority in Mwanza, we have decided to provide them with the support of these vehicles to improve the situation in providing education for our vocational youth. This is also in line with the fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals," Mr. Shayo pointed out.

AFRICA ROAD BUILDERS TROPHY: PRESIDENT SAMIA CREDITS FEAT TO THE LATE DR. JOHN MAGUFULI
However, she explained that the credit should go to her predecessor, the late Dr. John Magufuli, president of the fifth phase government who implemented a number of infrastructure projects including roads, railways as well as bridges.

CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY SET FOR THE COMMONWEALTH BUSINESS FORUM 2022
During his address to CEOs cutting across different sectors in Tanzania, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Tanzania, Major General Charles Karamba expressed that the upcoming Commonwealth Business Forum will seek to “transform challenges into exciting opportunities” by providing innovations and solutions to global and regional challenges including climate change, technology proliferation, access to healthcare and expanding consumer markets.
Mr. John Bosco Kalisa, CEO & Executive Director of the East African Business Council (EABC) stated “Commonwealth Countries boast a total population of 2.61billion, this is a huge consumer base that can be exploited”. He noted that the East African Community (EAC) is chosen as the prefered destination for trade and investment due to the harmonisation of regional legal systems, growing intra-regional trade supported by dynamic and vibrant agriculture, manufacturing as well as service-oriented sectors and the recent roll-out of digital infrastructure.
His sentiment was precisely echoed by Prof. Godius Kahyarara, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade who noted that the African nations stand to prosper most from the upcoming Commonwealth Business Forum due to the existing trade, business and legal frameworks in place including SADC, COMESA, ECOWAS which seek to promote trade across Africa. NMB BANK TO PROVIDE 200 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS
Dar es Salaam: NMB Bank Plc – through its NMB Foundation – announced that it would issue 200 students with its NMB Nuru Yangu Scholarship and Mentorship Programme this year as the lender strengthens its corporate social investment efforts in communities across Tanzania.
Launched in September, 2022, the NMB Foundation is a not-for-profit institution that serves as the social arm of Tanzania’s most profitable lender.
“Starting this academic year, we are giving out 200 scholarships whereby 150 will be selected from the best performing Form 5 (A Level) students while the remaining 50 will be those doing their first year of university schooling,” the board chairperson for NMB Foundation and chief executive officer for NMB Bank Plc, Ms Ruth Zaipuna said in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The programme targets bright and needy students in NMB Bank’s efforts to support them so they can realise their full potential.
NMB Bank will shoulder all the costs associated with the learning needs of the 200 students who will be picked through the programme, with a total of Sh450 million scheduled to be spent this year on the programme. The money covers costs for tuition fees, scholastic materials, transport, health insurance, practical training and laptop computers for the first-year university students.
“The sponsorship covers all the direct costs that a student will need to be in class. We will also mentor all the successful students as part of our efforts to nurture the next generation,” she said.
She said for university students, a particular priority will be directed towards programmes such as Accounts and Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Oil and Gas and Medical studies.
“We will work closely with all the relevant stakeholders right from ward level to ensure that eligible students.

PRESIDENT SAMIA AMONG 100 INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN 2022

President Hassan is on Time 100 along with global leaders, including US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The list, which was unveiled on Tuesday May 24, has been divided into six major categories, namely Leader, Titan, Pioneer, Artist, Icon and Innovator.
Other than President Hassan, the only other African leader on the list is Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Eulogising President Hassan, Ms Ellen Sirleaf, former President of Liberia and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, said: “President Samia Suluhu Hassan took office in March 2021, and her leadership has been a tonic.”
She added that the Tanzanian Head of State had made a huge difference just within a year since she took office.
TANZANIA TO SPEND SH468 BILLION ($200 MILLION) ON FIVE NEW AIR TANZANIA PLANES
Tanzania will spend Sh468 billion to purchase new aircraft for Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) in the coming financial year.
This was said by the Minister of works and transport Professor Makame Mbarawa on Monday, May 23 while tabling the ministry’s budget in parliament.
“The money will be spent on completing payments for five aircraft for ATCL which include a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, two Boeing 737-9 aircraft, one cargo Boeing 767-300F and one Dash 8 Q400,” Prof Mbarawa said.
Prof Mbarawa, said government was determined to turn Tanzania into a transport and logistics hub in East and Central Africa and that it has signed contracts for the purchase of five more aircraft for ATCL.
The contracts will see the country purchasing a Dash 8 Q400, two Boeing B737-9 Max, a Boeing B787-8 Dreamliner and a Boeing 767-300F for cargo.
The purchases of the planes which are expected to arrive early next year will bring ATCL’s fleet to 16 aircraft.

Akizungumza katika kongamano la utalii (Tourism Networking) lililofanyika jijini Arusha mwishoni mwa wiki Dk. Michael alisema Benki ya NMB imekuwa chachu katika kuhakikisha inawapa mikopo wadau wa sekta ya utalii katika kuimarisha mazingira ya vivutio nchini.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appealed to multilateral financiers to allow the African Development Bank (AfDB) to access Special Drawing Rights (SDR), which will benefit African countries in development.
"We have to raise our voices to ask multilateral financiers to allow AfDB to access SDR's because these are going to benefit Africa."
"Africa will be close to getting funds from our own bank for our own development," President Samia told delegates during a dialogue at the annual meetings of the AfDB as well as Africa Development Fund (ADF), taking place in Accra, Ghana.
"The funds have to go through our own bank (AfDB) for our own development," President Samia said during the second day of her 3-day working visit in Ghana.
President Samia congratulated AfDB on its 50th anniversary and extended appreciation to the lender for supporting execution of development projects in Tanzania.

Akizungumza katika Mkutano Mkuu wa 27 wa Benki hiyo uliofanyika jana katika mazingira ya mseto, Mwenyekiti wa Bodi ya Benki hiyo Dkt. Ally Laay alisema gawio lililoidhinishwa kwa kila hisa ni ongezeko la asilimia 64 ikilinganishwa na Shilingi 22 kwa kila hisa iliyotolewa mwaka jana. Alisema hiyo inaashiria ukuaji wa mapato kwa kila hisa ambapo katika kipindi cha mwaka 2021 yalikuwa Shilingi 102.7.
Aidha alibainisha kuwa kampuni tanzu za Benki hiyo ziliendelea kuchangia vyema katika biashara ya kundi huku kampuni tanzu ya Burundi pekee ikichangia faida ya jumla ya Shilingi bilioni 12.8 huku kampuni tanzu ya bima ikichangia faida ya TZS 859.0 milioni. Jumla ya mchango wa kampuni tanzu kwenye faida ya kundi ilikuwa 5%.
Akizungumzia utendaji wa mwaka uliopita, Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Benki ya CRDB, Abdulmajid Nsekela alisema mapato ya uendeshaji ya Kampuni yaliongezeka kwa asilimia 14.3% hadi Shilingi bilioni 924.0 kutoka Shilingi bilioni 808.7 mwaka 2020. Ukuaji huo ulitokana na ongezeko la 11.3% ya mapato ya jumla ya riba, yaliyotokana na ukuaji mzuri wa mikopo kwa wateja wadogo na wakati. Pamoja na ukuaji wa mikopo Benki hiyo lilifunga mwaka na uwiano wa mikopo chechefu wa 3.3% kulinganisha na kiwango cha udhibti cha soko cha 5%.
"Kutokana na mtazamo wetu makini katika mwaka huo, Benki yetu iliendelea kukamata masoko kwa bidhaa na huduma bunifu, hivyo kupelekea ukuaji endelevu katika mapato na faida yetu. Tuliendelea kufanyia kazi changamoto za wateja ili kuboresha utoaji wetu wa huduma na kuhakikisha tunawapa uzoefu uliobora zaidi pindi watumiapo huduma zetu,” aliongeza.
Aliwashukuru wanahisa kwa imani yao na kuendelea kuunga mkono uongozi na wafanyakazi wa benki hiyo, ambako kumeiwezesha benki hiyo kupata mafanikio makubwa katika sekta ya huduma za kifedha Tanzania, na kuwahakikishia dhamira ya Benki hiyo ya kuendelea kutoa thamani endelevu zaidi kwao.
Wakati huo huo, Mwenyekiti wa Bodi ya Benki hiyo, Dkt. Ally Laay aliwaeleza wanahisa kwamba katika kipindi cha mwaka huo, Benki ya CRDB ilipokea Wajumbe wapya wa Bodi Bw. Gerald Kasato, aliyechukua nafasi ya Bi. Rose Metta, akiwakilisha wanahisa wanaomiliki kati ya 1% -10% ya hisa na Bw. Roya Lyanga aliyechukua nafasi ya Bi. Ellen Gervas Rwijage kama mwakilishi wa Mfuko wa Uwekezaji wa DANIDA (DIF).

DODOMA KUONDOKANA NA ADHA YA MAJI BAADA YA AfDB KUIPATIA TANZANIA MKOPO NAFUU WA SH. BIL 289

Wakazi wa jiji la Dodoma na Wilaya za Bahi, Chemba na Chamwino wanatarajia kuondokana na adha ya maji hivi karibuni baada ya Benki ya Maendeleo ya Afrika – AfDB, kutoa mkopo wenye masharti nafuu wa dola za Marekani milioni 125. 2, sawa na shilingi za Tanzania bilioni 289.34 kwa ajili ya utekelezaji wa Mradi wa Maji Safi na Usafi wa Mazingira-Dodoma.
Mkataba wa mkopo huo umesainiwa leo (tarehe 16 Mei 2022) jijini Dar es Salaam na Waziri wa Fedha na Mipango Mhe Dkt. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (Mb), kwa niaba ya Serikali ya Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania na Mwakilishi Mkazi wa Benki ya Maendeleo ya Afika (AfDB), Dkt Patrician N. Laverley.
Dkt. Mwigulu alisema mradi huo unaokadiriwa kuwanufaisha zaidi ya wakazi milioni 2, utasaidia kutatua changamoto ya upungufu wa maji katika miji hiyo unaotokana na sababu mbalimbali ikiwemo ukame na ongezeko la watu baada ya idadi kubwa ya watu kuhamia mkoani humo.
