- 4G LTE services will contribute to Government’s vision of Broadband on Demand and building Tanzania's digital economy
The 4G network further proves Airtel as the mobile operator that innovates with customers in mind and provides better and more efficient services that address the dynamic needs of consumers across the country.
Speaking in Dodoma, Honorable Angellah Kairuki Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office Responsible for Investment said the launch of the 4G network by Airtel Tanzania proves yet another commitment of building a New Airtel-Airtel Mpya as per agreement reached by the telecommunication firm and the Government earlier this year.
I’m very delighted to see a new Airtel in terms of network and infrastructure development. To me as a Minister responsible for Investment it tells me a lot when I see this kind of investment and commitment as under the 5th Phase Government led by His Excellency, President John Joseph Pombe Magufuli, we have set a good pace for our investor to continue doing their business comfortably across. We are all aware that, Airtel Tanzania and the government made a new agreement earlier this year whereby the government now owns 49% of shares in Airtel. And as we are here today, I know Airtel already paid Tzs 8 billion to the government as part of the agreement and now embark into network expansion being also one of the agreements. The government is very proud for this move of investment and we are very confident now we are building a new Airtel, Kariuki said.
“I am informed that we are officially unveiling Airtel 4G network here in Dodoma today and within a short time the 4G network will be rolled up in another 25 towns across the country. This is a very successful move not only to Airtel but also to the government as this investment has shown the commitment of Airtel in improving economic and social development to our country, the Minister added.
Speaking at the same event, Airtel Tanzania Managing Director George Mathen said that the launch of 4G is in line with Airtel Tanzania's transformative journey and the company’s objective of offering customers the best digital experience.
In addition, this is one of the commitments made with the government on investing to expand our communication infrastructure for the benefit of both sides. Our promise to the government is that we will continue to invest in various areas as the government has shown a lot of trust to private investors like us, he said.
Airtel customers can now have access to the best and most reliable digital experience and ultra-fast downloads at normal internet bundle rates. All that is required is a 4G enabled smartphone and 4G SIM card for existing customers. Our customers can also dial *149*95# in order to verify if their phone and SIM card are 4G enabled”, clarified Mathen
The launch of 4G technology will offer an opportunity to advance digital adoption in Tanzania; from the scaling-up of faster digital services and the provision of access to high-speed Internet, voice and services that directly resonate with the changing lifestyles. ‘We are proud that with the launch of 4G network, our company has again put Tanzania on a global telecommunications map, Mathen said.
