EXIM BANK TANZANIA AND ITS YEAR-LONG CSR INITIATIVE

Acting Medical Officer in Charge of Mwananyamala regional referral hospital, Dr. Khadija Shebe congratulates Exim Bank Tanzania, Head of Branches, Agnes Kaganda for the donation of 40 beds and mattresses for the maternity ward at Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar es Salaam as part of woman's day celebration that takes place every year on the 8th of March.
15th March 2018, Dar es Salaam. In Tanzania, hospitals and clinics suffer from a shortage of medicine, medical supplies, and beds, particularly public referral hospitals. In an attempt to address these shortages plaguing the nation, Exim Bank Tanzania, a Tanzanian bank with an unmatched international presence, has embarked on countrywide initiative of donating 500 beds and mattresses to maternity wards at public hospitals in 13 regions across the country as part of yearlong corporate social campaign aimed at celebrating 20 years of serving the Tanzanian community.

Exim Bank Tanzania has donated 40 beds and mattresses to the Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital, maternity ward in Dar es Salaam.

The Corporate Social campaign dubbed “20 years of taking care of the community” which was launched in August last year 2017 during the banks 20th anniversary has invested heavily into the Tanzanian healthcare especially when it comes improving the healthcare delivered to women.

Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital is the eighth hospital to receive this donation, after Bombo Referral Hospital in Tanga last month, Mbeya Zonal Referral hospital in Mbeya in January, Mount Meru Regional Hospital in Arusha in December, Dodoma Referral Hospital in November, Ligula Hospital in Mtwara in October, Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar in September and Temeke Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam in August last year.

The event was led by Exim Bank women employees at the hospital grounds and was honored by the presence of the acting Medical Officer In charge of Mwananyamala regional referral hospital, Dr. Khadija Shebe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Agnes Kaganda, Exim Bank Head of Branches said, “In the spirit of celebrating amazing women this month, Exim Bank recognizes the role played by women and it's our way of appreciating the contribution made by women in the society, towards the growth of the economy. Our entire yearlong CSR initiative is based on understanding just how much women are vital to the very survival of societies. The bank has dedicated its 20th Anniversary celebrations to help women by improving on the maternity services in the health sector. We believe that we have a huge part to play in effecting positive changes in various sectors across our communities and we are committed to this cause”

The acting Medical Officer in charge of Mwananyamala regional referral hospital, Dr. Khadija Shebe commended Exim Bank Tanzania for its support and urged various institutions to emulate the gesture of Exim Bank Tanzania in helping to improve healthcare delivery to women in the country. He added, “Shortages of beds is one of the biggest challenges faced by hospitals. The donation of 40 beds and mattresses from Exim Bank will go a long way in addressing this issue”.

As part of the yearlong donation initiative “20 years of caring for the community”, which has had women at its core, Exim Bank will donate 500 beds and mattresses to maternity wards at hospitals in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Morogoro, Kigoma, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Shinyanga, Dodoma, Mbeya, Mtwara, Arusha, Pemba and Ugunja.

The bank, which was recognized as Tanzania’s Best Overall Local Employer in 2017, is celebrating 20 years of success, growth and pioneering into new markets across the continent. Exim Bank (Tanzania) Limited was established in 1997 and expanded its market by opening subsidiaries in Comoros (2007), Djibouti (2010) and Uganda (2016).

The Bank holds pride in being the largest indigenous bank in the Country, thanks to its loyal customer base who enjoy a differentiated experience in the entire spectrum of banking services.
