Dar es Salaam. Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, a leading global ICT solutions provider  donated Tsh10 million to the Tanzania Scouts Association (TSA) over the weekend, to honor 100 years of Scouting in Tanzania as well as to mark the African Scouts Day 2017.

The donation was part of Huawei’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to support the government efforts in improving children and youth development as well as the education sector in the country.

As a responsible citizen, Huawei has been in Tanzania for 17 years with a mission to grow together with Tanzania by empowering local Tanzanians especially in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and the company has invested a lot in supporting children, women and other vulnerable people in Tanzania.

Speaking at the fundraising dinner, the Prime Minister of Tanzania Mr Kassim Majaliwa said the donation was one of the efforts made by various institutions to support the Tanzania Scouts Association (TSA) which will celebrate its 100th birthday 2017, July in Dodoma region.

“This will be in recognition of the memorable contributions that Scouts have made in this country. The Association is the real kiln for producing responsible leaders and executives. It will be during the celebrations that will look back to harness the past to improve the future,” he said.
He said that the Tanzania Scouts Association (TSA) is the national Scouting organization of Tanzania. Scouting in Tanzania was founded in 1917, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in 1963. The co-educational association has 91,057 members as of 2010.

Minister of Education, Science, Technologies and Vocational Training Prof Joyce Ndalichako who is also TSA President said that scouting is a global, educational Youth movement. It is organized through Scout Associations at National levels including the Tanzania Scouts Association (TSA).

She said that scouting has a clear purpose which includes helping young people to achieve their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international community.

“Even though the Scouts cannot solve all the problems of the world, Scouts can help to make it a better place.
