Marketing Manager for DKT International Tanzania Sialouise Shayo speaks with various guests during the launch of Trust community homes designed specifically to meet the reproductive and family planning needs of women in smaller towns and communities at DKT headquarters in Masaki Dar es salaam.
Dar es salaam-Tanzania, DKT International Tanzania has showcased new innovative business model for midwives – the Trust Community Maternity Home – a self-contained franchise clinic built in a shipping container designed to meet the reproductive and family planning needs of women in smaller towns and communities.
Located in Msasani, Dar es Salaam, the Trust Community Maternity Home was presented to the public during the Open House of the new Trust Health & Wellness Clinic and DKT International Tanzania’s new Head Office on 2nd September, 2016.
“Every year, there are one million women in Tanzania, who get pregnant” without planning to get pregnant said DKT International Tanzania CEO and Country Director, Raphael da Silva. “Not only does this financially affect these women, their health and family income, but it also puts tremendous pressure on the Government to meet the health and education needs of all these new-born children.
If we can get high quality family planning and reproductive health services to smaller communities, we can make a meaningful positive difference for women and the country” he said.
“Trust Community Maternity Homes are fully-fledged clinics in container facilities that are managed and run by experienced and competent midwives as franchises under the Trust Health and Wellness brand,” said Project Manager Carol Mango. “These Maternity homes offer the same level of quality service, confidentiality, personal engagement and assistance as our other Trust clinics across Tanzania,” he added.
Trust plans to engage seasoned midwives in a flexible rent-to-own franchise arrangement. Participating midwives use a fully equipped solar-powered clinic in a container capable of performing the full range of family planning and reproductive health services, plus a range of other aligned health services and products to their communities.
The midwives are compensated by charging modest fees and prices for their products and services. Currently, there are 4 Trust Health & Wellness Clinics located in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mbeya and Mwanza plus a network of 30 Trust partners, private clinics and hospitals who provide services under the Trust brand name.
The Msasani, Dar es Salaam clinic opened in July.
