Mr Othman’s retirement is effective from last Friday (August 19), after his three-year contract extension expired. Former President Jakaya Kikwete had extended the TISS chief’s contract after reaching the mandatory retirement age.
He retired in 2013 and had his contract extended on one-year terms’ basis for three years. He was appointed by Mr Kikwete on August 20, 2006 to replace the long serving civil servant, Mr Apson Mwang’onda.
He served as the TISS director for 10 consecutive years. Prior to his appointment, Mr Othman was TISS Head of Administration and Personnel. Mr Othman will be remembered for his intelligence, industriousness, competence and shrewdness during his tenure, enabling the country to remain safe and stable.
