innovation and dedication towards facilitating secure online transactions in
Tanzania, has been recognised by Visa with an award for the most online transactions
and activations.
The bank’s Head of Retail and Business Banking, Ms.
Joyce Malai, confirmed the news to the media during a press
briefing held at the bank’s head offices. “We are pleased to have received this
award in such a competitive market and it shows how committed we are to serving
our customers and ensuring that we make their transactions easier.” said Ms. Malai.
She said, in the endeavour to promote safe and secure
online transactions, anyone can own the Visa card regardless of whether they
have an account with the bank or not. Ms. Malai explained that BancABC Visa
Cash Card is an easily reloadable
pre-paid card that eliminates the inconveniences and insecurity of carrying
cash around.
The card can be used to do a number of various transactions
such as paying for airline tickets, wages and per diems for employees, school
fees and living expenses for students, grants and loans by governments, tourist
park fees, etc. All one needs is a valid identification and then fill a simple
application form at any of its branches.
She added that customers can
easily load and re-load the card through mobile money such us TIGOPESA,
AIRTELMONEY or MPESA as well as through other banks across
Tanzania. “We believe that these unique features of this product is what has attracted
customers and thus the recognitions from Visa,” she said.
According to the Head of Marketing for BancABC, Ms
Upendo Nkini, the card comes in five different currencies which are TZS,
USD, GBP, EURO and RAND “Apart from enabling holders to make online purchases
over the internet, the card also allows people to access their money anywhere
at over 400 Visa-branded Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in Tanzania , over
1.3 million Visa-branded ATM’s worldwide and one can do purchases from over
1,000 Visa merchants in Tanzania and over 35 million Visa merchant retail
outlets worldwide.
