Bank M Tanzania plc has once again partnered with the Hassan Maajar Trust (HMT) programme to improve the learning environment in public schools across the country.
The partnership is partly aimed at providing desks to public primary schools in the country. The theme has been; A Desk for Every Child, and for this year an event under the banner ‘Walk for a Desk’, a charity walk, is planned to take place on 28th November starting and ending at the Police Officers Mess in Oysterbay along Toure Drive.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday, on behalf of the HMT Chairperson Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajar, Ambassador Bertha Semu-Somi, who is a Trustee and Chair of the Desks Committee said HMT is very lucky to have Bank M on board again adding that the support extended by Bank M since HMT inception in 2011 has significantly impacted the success of their projects.
“Through this charity walk, we intend to raise TZS 300m to fund 1, 764 desks for Majimatitu Primary school in Mbagala, which has 5,000 students with only 550 desks”, Ambassador Semu-Somi continued.
“Since its launch, HMT in partnership with the public and corporate Tanzania has succeeded to provide over 7000 desks lifting over 21,000 boys and girls off the floor onto desks in eleven regions of Tanzania. When fully implemented, the programme will result in improvement in class attendance and eventual enhancement in the quality of education across the country, thanks to all our partners including our main sponsor Bank M”, said Amb. Semu-Somi.
“Our goal is to ensure that no child has to sit on the floor. We are happy to have Bank M among those who share and champion this dream,” concluded Ambassador Semu-Somi.
On her side, Bank M’s Deputy CEO Ms. Jacqueline Woiso said that Bank M is proud to be associated with the Hassan Maajar Trust in such a noble cause and commended the Trust for a job well done in the previous years. “Having over 21,000 children lifted off the floor and seated on desks is an achievement we can all be proud of. We have jointly made sitting on the floor a history for thousands of Tanzanian school children”.
“This has really encouraged us, to join hands with the Hassan Maajar Trust once again this year,” added Ms. Woiso.
“We all understand the challenges in the education sector especially in our public schools which accommodate a significant section of our children. It is our collective duty to support the Government in its effort to improve the situation in our schools as part of the larger strategy of enhancing the quality of education” Woiso affirmed.
She said for Bank M, caring for the community is an abiding passion and towards this, the bank has concentrated its energies on its core Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy focusing on enhancing the quality of Community Health, Education, Local Arts and Environment conservation.
