The President of Middle East & Africa at Mastercard, Michael Miebach, addresses NMB invited guests at the launch of the MasterCard debit cards at the Hyatt Regency, The Kilimanjaro in Dar es Salaam. MasterCard debit cards are accepted at millions of merchants in more than 210 countries worldwide.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 16 June 2015 – National Microfinance Bank (NMB), Tanzania’s largest bank, today launched its range of MasterCard debit cards, including the Tanzanite, Titanium and the first World Rewards card in the country.

The new range of MasterCard debit cards cater to the bank’s diverse range of customers, including the mass market (Tanzanite), the middle class (Titanium) and affluent customers (World Rewards,) providing a range of benefits curated for each target group.

“With the rapid progression of the electronic payments industry, our customers are increasingly seeking faster, more secure and smarter ways to pay. To cater to their evolving needs, we have launched this range of internationally-accepted debit cards, making it easier for them to safely access their funds both here in Tanzania and abroad,” says Ineke Bussemaker, Managing Director of NMB.

MasterCard debit cardholders will now be able to withdraw money from millions of ATMs worldwide that display the MasterCard Acceptance Mark. They will also be able to pay bills, top up prepaid electricity and airtime, and shop online at a wide variety of local and international stores.

“MasterCard debit cards are accepted at millions of merchants in more than 210 countries, which means that both leisure and business travelers can access their funds almost anywhere, with as much ease as at home,” says Michael Miebach, President, Middle East and Africa, MasterCard. “Importantly, every local and international transaction is protected by MasterCard Secure Code and EMV Chip and PIN technologies, which provide additional layers of security every time a cardholder uses their card online or in a traditional store.”

NMB also becomes the first bank in the country to launch the MasterCard World Rewards debit card. Word Rewards gives cardholders access to a range of lifestyle privileges including exclusive offers on flights, accommodation, car hire, dining, retail, culture, sports and entertainment through the MasterCard Priceless Cities and Priceless Africa programmes.

“At NMB, we believe that it is important to anticipate our customers’ needs and wants, and reward them for their loyalty. We are thrilled to be the first bank in Tanzania to introduce this revolutionary rewards program that gives our affluent customers access to a wide range of priceless privileges including our existing business centres and the newly-launched Private Banking branch, which will serve our high-end customers,” says Bussemaker.

World Rewards cardholders will also be able to earn loyalty points on their card spend, which can be redeemed for flights at over 800 airlines worldwide, car rentals at major car rental brands and hotel stays at over 160,000 hotels globally.

Debit cardholders will still enjoy a range of NMB services including access to the NMB App, NMB Internet Banking, NMB E-Statement and NMB Mobile among others.
