Speaking with the press yesterday, Sharmila Bhatt who is the organizing Committee Chairperson articulated that the Incoming Conference is held in Tanzania once again and it will bring together about 1,200 delegates from Tanzania and Uganda. This year’s DCA is expected to also be attended by the Former Nigerian His Excellency President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Bugandan Prime Minister Hon. Charles Peter Mayiga.
Speaking during the pre-event briefing, Bank M’s Deputy CEO Ms. Jacqueline Woiso said Bank M has been supporting Rotary activities for over 6 years now. “We are happy to partner with Rotary to once again ensure a tremendous conference for the Rotarians. We recognize and are supportive of the efforts of Rotary for the local communities”.
Commenting on the Bank M’s sponsorship towards this year’s event, the Organizing Committee Chairperson Sharmila Bhatt said “We are honoured to be associated with Bank M who is supporting this annual conference and other major community projects”.
Africa, which has the most challenges, lags behind in membership and it is for this purpose the three days conference will mainly focus on membership development and community projects and needs in Rotary District 9211 which consists of Uganda and Tanzania with a total of 115 Rotary clubs out of which 38 are in Tanzania.
Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders who dedicate their time and talent to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects over 1.2 million members who are divided into Districts in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work impacts lives at both the local and international levels from helping families in need.
In Tanzania, Rotary has managed to carry out huge community service projects and in the last 7 years the six clubs in Dar es Salaam formed the Rotary Dar Marathon, and to date the project has facilitated many community projects, one of them being state of the art Pediatric Oncology ward in sub Saharan Africa built at the Muhimbili National Hospital.
