LONDON, United Kingdom; July 23, 2026 — Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to attracting international investment, with the Government inviting global investors to explore opportunities across key sectors including infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, mining and financial services.
The call was made by the Minister for Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP) while leading the Tanzanian delegation at the Tanzania Strategic Investment and Partnership Forum in London. The high-level forum brought together executives from leading international financial institutions, insurance companies and risk management firms, and was organised by Tanzania's Ministry of Finance in collaboration with Standard Bank UK.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Omar highlighted Tanzania's investor-friendly environment, underpinned by ongoing economic reforms, competitive tax incentives and a strong commitment to private sector-led growth. He noted that these initiatives are central to the implementation of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, which targets transforming the country into a US$1 trillion economy by 2050, with approximately 70 percent of the required investment expected to come from the private sector.
Strong Economic Fundamentals
Presenting Tanzania's economic outlook under Vision 2050, Ambassador Omar said the country's economy expanded by 5.9 percent in 2025, up from 5.5 percent in 2024, while inflation remained below 5 percent, among the lowest levels in Africa.
He further noted that the budget deficit has narrowed to 3.1 percent of GDP, with 74.2 percent of the national budget now financed through domestic revenues, reflecting improved fiscal sustainability. Tanzania's public debt, he added, continues to be assessed as sustainable by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Standard Bank Reaffirms Confidence in Tanzania
Speaking during the forum, Ian Carson, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank Europe, reaffirmed the bank's commitment to connecting Africa with global capital markets.
He described Tanzania as one of Africa's most attractive destinations for long-term investment, citing its strong macroeconomic performance, strategic location and growing investment opportunities.
Tanzania Strengthens Investor Engagement
Tanzania's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki, said the Government remains committed to maintaining regular engagement with the international investment community.
He noted that Tanzania continues to implement a comprehensive economic reform agenda focused on sound macroeconomic management, structural reforms and increased private sector participation.
"We welcome sustained partnerships with international investors as we work together to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth," Ambassador Kairuki said.
LNG, SGR and Strategic Infrastructure Draw Investor Interest
During the interactive session, investors sought updates on Tanzania's proposed US$42 billion Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project.
Responding to the questions, Ambassador Omar explained that negotiations have reached an advanced stage, with the remaining issues relating to internal processes among the commercial partners. He reaffirmed the Government's readiness to proceed once those processes are concluded.
Participants also expressed strong interest in Tanzania's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the ports of Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara, and the country's regional trade corridors.
Government representatives confirmed that by 2030/31, nearly 2,000 kilometres of the SGR network are expected to be completed, significantly strengthening Tanzania's position as East Africa's leading trade and logistics gateway.
Other topics discussed included foreign exchange availability, energy security, the digital economy, agricultural transformation and value addition initiatives such as the Cotton-to-Cloth programme.
Advancing Tanzania's Economic Diplomacy
The forum forms part of Tanzania's broader economic diplomacy strategy aimed at deepening international partnerships and mobilising long-term investment to accelerate national development.
The Tanzanian delegation was led by Finance Minister Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP) and included Government Debt Management Commissioner Japhet Justine, while the Embassy of Tanzania in the United Kingdom was represented by Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki.
