Mtwara, 14 April 2026 – Residents of Mtwara Region and surrounding areas are set to benefit from improved access to digital and financial services following the launch of a new Yas Tanzania store in the region.

The store was officially inaugurated by Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Hon. Colonel Donald Msengi, as part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its footprint and enhance service accessibility across the country.

According to company officials, the new outlet is expected to support small businesses, fishermen, farmers, and young people by improving access to essential digital and financial tools that are increasingly critical in everyday economic activities.

Speaking during the launch, Colonel Msengi described the development as a significant milestone for the region.

The opening of this store marks a major milestone for our region. These services will stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of our people. It is a crucial step toward ensuring essential services are accessible within our communities,” he said.

On her part, Yas Tanzania’s Head of Stores, Ms. Sarah Sonelo, noted that the investment was driven by growing demand for reliable digital and financial services in Mtwara, a region with strong economic potential.

Mtwara is a key economic hub for Tanzania, driven by activities such as cashew farming, fishing, natural gas, and port trade. Through this store, we are bringing services closer to our customers—enabling fast, secure, and convenient transactions while supporting local economic growth,” she said.

She added that the store will offer a comprehensive suite of services, including SIM registration, smartphones, and internet devices, alongside financial solutions through Mixx by Yas and bill payment services.

Our mission is to be a trusted digital ally to Tanzanians. This investment reflects our continued commitment to delivering solutions that directly improve people’s lives,” she emphasized.

Yas’ Regional Director for South and Southern Highlands, Mr. Joseph Mutalemwa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustained investment in service quality and network expansion.

We take pride in operating one of the fastest and most extensive 4G and 5G networks nationwide. Our goal is to ensure that every Tanzanian benefits from our services. This store provides an opportunity to address challenges in the telecommunications sector while enabling greater participation in the modern economy,” he said.

The new store brings the total number of major Yas outlets in Mtwara to two, in addition to 14 smaller shops. It also forms part of a broader network of more than 500 Yas stores across Tanzania—underscoring the company’s ongoing efforts to deepen digital inclusion and financial access nationwide.
