STANDARD CHARTERED MARKS WOMEN’S DAY WITH DONATION AND FINANCIAL EDUCATION AT CCBRT

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 13 March 2026 – Standard Chartered Tanzania has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with a community outreach visit to CCBRT Hospital, where the bank donated 12 sewing machines to support the hospital’s Mabinti Programme, an initiative aimed at empowering young women through skills development and rehabilitation.

The sewing machines will be used at the Mabinti Centre to help beneficiaries acquire practical tailoring skills that can enable them to generate income and build sustainable livelihoods. The donation reflects the bank’s continued commitment to supporting community initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and economic inclusion in Tanzania.

During the visit, staff members from Standard Chartered Tanzania also conducted a financial education session for beneficiaries of the Mabinti Centre. The session focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge on managing personal finances, including budgeting, saving, and planning for financial independence.

As part of the day’s activities, the bank’s team also visited the Fistula Ward at CCBRT Hospital, where they spent time with patients and distributed care hampers to women receiving treatment. The visit aimed to provide encouragement and support to patients during their recovery journey.

Speaking during the visit, Desideria Mwegelo, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing at Standard Chartered Tanzania and Head of CIB Marketing Africa, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to advancing inclusive growth by supporting programmes that uplift women and girls.

According to Mwegelo, the partnership with CCBRT reflects the bank’s broader purpose of driving commerce and prosperity through meaningful community engagement, particularly by supporting initiatives that provide women with skills, dignity, and opportunities to build better futures.

Through such initiatives, Standard Chartered Tanzania continues to play a role in strengthening communities by promoting financial literacy, supporting skills development, and encouraging economic participation among women and young people.
