DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – Sunday, 11 January 2026 — Stanbic Bank Tanzania has been named Best Bank in Tanzania for 2025 by The Banker, the global banking publication of the Financial Times Group, in recognition of the Bank’s outstanding financial performance, innovation, and sustained contribution to national economic development.
The prestigious award follows a rigorous evaluation process that assessed banks across African markets, focusing on financial strength, strategic execution, innovation, and customer impact. This marks the eighth time Stanbic Bank has received the accolade, reinforcing its position as one of Tanzania’s most consistent and trusted financial institutions.
Strong Performance and National Impact
In a highly competitive banking environment, Stanbic stood out for its significant support to Tanzania’s critical economic sectors, particularly energy, infrastructure, logistics, and SME development.
By the period ending June 2025, the Bank had deployed over USD 1 billion (approximately TSh2.5 trillion) in development financing aligned with Tanzania’s industrialisation agenda. The funding supported major national infrastructure projects, including port modernisation, power grid expansion, and investments along the liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain.
Driving Inclusive Growth and Social Impact
Beyond financial performance, The Banker also recognised Stanbic’s strong social and community impact. Through targeted Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes in education, health, environmental sustainability, and financial literacy, the Bank positively impacted more than 2 million Tanzanians in 2025.
The Stanbic Biashara Incubator delivered measurable results, supporting nearly 5,000 entrepreneurs with practical, market-driven training. The programme strengthened enterprise resilience, financial capability, clean-energy adoption, and regional trade participation.
Leadership Commentary
Stanbic Bank Tanzania Chief Executive, Mr. Manzi Rwegasira, said the recognition reflects both the Bank’s legacy and its future ambitions.
“As part of the Standard Bank Group, we are honoured to be named Tanzania’s Bank of the Year. This award recognises the impact of our 30-year journey in Tanzania and reaffirms our belief that Africa is our home and that we drive her growth. Over the past year, we have deployed capital into transformative energy, trade, and infrastructure projects, expanded financial access through digital solutions, and catalysed cross-border investment flows. Looking ahead, we remain committed to turning opportunity into impact across Tanzania and beyond,” he said.
Speaking after receiving the award at a ceremony held recently in London, United Kingdom, Stanbic Bank Tanzania Head of Brand and Marketing, Ms. Neemarose Singo, credited the achievement to the Bank’s people and clients.
“The Best Bank Award is a strong acknowledgement of the work our teams have delivered across the country. It recognises our discipline, innovation, and focus on helping businesses, families, and communities grow. We are proud of this milestone and grateful to our clients who continue to choose Stanbic as their partner,” she said.
Ms. Singo noted that 2025 was a defining year for the Bank, characterised by new branch openings, increased digital adoption, strong capital market activity, and continued alignment with national development priorities.
“This award captures the story of a bank that continues to invest in Tanzania and deliver real value to its customers. Our progress over the past year is the result of teamwork and a shared commitment to national growth,” she added.
Looking Ahead to 2026
During the year, Stanbic expanded its branch network, enhanced digital banking services, and supported enterprise growth through distributor finance, supply chain solutions, and tailored SME and corporate lending. The Bank also deepened community partnerships focusing on skills development, women’s economic empowerment, and youth entrepreneurship.
The recognition marks another milestone in Stanbic’s 30-year journey in Tanzania and sets the stage for the Bank’s 2026 priorities, including further expansion, deeper client engagement, increased digital capability, and continued investment in sustainable finance.
