Airtel Africa Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa Plc, has unveiled an ambitious strategy to directly improve the lives of 10 million people across Africa by 2030. The plan will be delivered through targeted initiatives under four core pillars: Financial Empowerment, Education, Environmental Protection, and Digital Inclusion (FEED).
Transforming Africa Through FEED
Announcing the 2030 vision, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chairman of Airtel Africa Foundation, said:
“Our 2030 vision is a transformed Africa where over 10 million lives are directly improved through our interventions. We are not just donating resources, we are building a pipeline of talent and fostering innovation to ensure the global digital revolution leaves no African behind. This is a strategic, measurable commitment to unlocking the continent's demographic dividend.”
The Foundation’s programmes will create a cycle of empowerment through initiatives such as:
- Connecting Schools – providing free connectivity and devices to enable digital education
- Airtel Africa Fellowship – offering full undergraduate scholarships in tech and STEM fields, supported by mentorship and internships
Early Successes: Partnership With UNICEF
A key highlight of the Foundation’s journey so far is its partnership with UNICEF, which has already:
- Connected 1,800+ schools across Airtel Africa’s markets
- Benefitted over 1 million students
- Trained more than 17,000 teachers in digital education
These achievements showcase the measurable impact of the Foundation’s strategy and underline its role in advancing education and digital inclusion across the continent.
Empowerment Through Employee Engagement
Beyond financial investment, the Foundation will leverage its Employee Volunteer Programme, channelling the skills and passion of Airtel staff into community initiatives. For the 2025/26 financial year, the Foundation has set expansion targets, with programmes active across all 14 operating countries, including Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Airtel Africa’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth
Reaffirming the company’s support, Sunil Taldar, CEO of Airtel Africa, noted:
“We cannot thrive in a place that is not thriving. This understanding is the very reason the Airtel Africa Foundation was born. It is our vehicle to catalyse transformation, by systematically investing in the pillars that underpin a resilient and dynamic society. For us, helping to connect the unconnected, banking the unbanked, and enabling businesses and economies to thrive are the three most significant objectives of our business.”
Looking Ahead
Through FEED, Airtel Africa Foundation is positioning itself as a key driver of inclusive growth across the continent. By combining education, technology, financial empowerment, and environmental sustainability, the Foundation aims not just to reach—but to transform—the lives of 10 million Africans by 2030.
